Forums - Gaming - Spencer: More MP Players Make Games Relevant for Longer; We'd Love FFXIV on XB1

Yeah, I'm sure the few people interested in Japanese games on XBO will make games like FFXIV more populated.

Nobody said anything of MS, but when Square said they didn't want their game in a platform without cross play and then exempted MS from that when they received a random paycheck, they seemed pretty hypocritical.

Guess why they didn't port it over to the Xbox. Also, Wii was a power thing and a lot of other problems they had with Nintendo over CC (not that CC)...

Oh wait... are you aware FFXI did have crossplay between PC, PS2, and 360? You've apparently held a grudge not knowing that.

The BIGGEST problem with OG Xbox was limited space (PS2 bundled HDD was 40GB vs Xbox 8GB). I don't know how FFXI would have performed on that console, maybe okay given it was a popular online platform.

The 360 had no crossplay, but it seems I had it the other way around... MS made the exception instead... Though it still made them look hypocritical (when they had the rule in effect for everything else...

So rather than MS being hypocritical with Square Enix, they simply made a 180 long before the Xbox One, who'd have thought?

If MS/Sony/Nintendo are willing to take financial risks or help make a project more profitable, a lot can get done. Its not hypocritical at all.

By the way, doing a little research you'll see SE wanted to bring FFXI to other platforms. OG Xbox and Wii were considerered but didn't happen for various reasons. So getting it on 360 probably didn't take much effort from MS if any.

What is CC ?, "Crowd Control" ?.

The 360 games that had cross play were/are Shadowrun, FFXI, and recently World of Tanks. MS was boasting about cross play early in 360's life but just stopped. Sony did on PS3 as well, but not a lot of cross play titles.

This is likely the first gen we'll see a significant push on cross play for more than a few titles.

Oh yeah, I remember that... It was during the early 360 days... Then they brought up their former policy and now they are rescinding it for good. Hopefully it never rears it's ugly face ever again...

I can sort of agree with that, specially with MS pushing W10 on everything...
