Because the high scores are huge pokemon fans, and anything pokemon is the best thing in the world (to them).

Reviewers are generally talking very well about the gameplay, and criticizing the lack of more Pokémon to choose, so I'd say that being Pokémon is what is deducting points for it, since they're complaining that with more than 700 Pokémon, 16 is not too much. Being part of that franchise is hurting the game, generally speaking.

Im just saying the reason some give this game a 90, and others a 60, which is a big differnce in score, could be because pokemon fans will like it more.

I highly doubt it being pokemon cost it anything score wise.

I don't know. The biggest criticism I see in almost every review was: "Why only 16 Pokémon when you can choose up to 700 ?". So I think it could hurt the score a little. Just a little, nothing outstanding xDDDD.

Everyone loves pokemon too much, you wont find a unbiased reviewer.

I disagree, I think if this game was not a pokemon title, it would have scored much lower.

I don't know why. It's solid graphically speaking, the gameplay is also really solid, it introduces some innovations in the fighting world (phase shift system), so it's fair to say that the game is decent. What's really the problem with it? I really can't see how it must score much lower.

Also Pokémon didn't have a free pass always. There were some Pokémon spin-offs which weren't precisely a hit with reviewers.

didnt sfv launch with only 16 characters and people were generally ok with it, but its a bad thing if pokken does it o.O?

Actually people wasn't OK with it, SFV has a similar metascore than Pokkén for that reason xDDD. That's what I thought it would do similar. Although my personal opinion is that it's more forgiving in a new IP than in SF, but that's another story.

Its a 3D fighter... where you have moves that lock you to a 2D plane for a short while.

The transition from 3D to 2D plane, and the move changes (when you do) is something new.... but the actually game just doesnt look in any way special to me.

The only thing that makes it stand out, is the fact that its pokemon.

I think SFV's score was due more to lack of content and lackluster online personally but thats for another thread and another time

hopefully i enjoy pokken o.o

So again why should it score lower? Just because it's not "special to me," seriously? 76 is not even that high, and your same argument for people giving it 90s can be used in reverse for those giving it 60s.

Why does the Mystery Dungeon series score low despite the fact that it's Pokemon?

XGN - 80
GamingTrend - 80
Digital Spy - 60

Also, it's important to note how Pokemon spinoffs usually perform critically. Games that a lot of fans hold dearly haven't scored particularly great.

Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon - 69
Pokemon Colosseum - 73
Pokemon Ranger - 69
Pokemon Snap - 77

Pokemon spinoffs just don't really score amazingly most of the time, and they have a better time with fan reception. That being said, this game really should have had a bigger roster and I think that's what's holding it back for the most part.
