Forums - Gaming - [PC Gamer] Why PC games should never become universal 'apps' (Or the problems with Microsoft UWP/UWAs

As for Vulkan, we can only hope that the expected uptake of it is as massive as it will need. DirectX has just been one big problem for a long time IMO. Being replaced with something open would be amazing. It's not going to be easy for vulkan to take over. Directx for gamers is embeded throughout sadly, hope it has some form of old directx emulation. Would make me switch to Steam OS as well if I didnt have to sacrifice so many games.

I can se Vulkan picking up the pace with time, it's being supported by Nvidia and AMD as well as Valve with other parties in tow. MS is the only one who is sporting DX 12 while having others having to impliment it later on for titles already released on multiple platforms and OS's, Vulkan being way more open and supporting multiple OS's means there is a high chance that it can become the main API, at least I want it to ebcause then it means we get more choices, better performance and a healthier less restritive approach to the platform.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

Around the Network

Simple solution, just don't use it.

Great article, confirms all my suspicions.
How to keep Windows open? Don't buy from the win 10 store.
Or stick with Windows 7 or 8.1 then you don't even get tempted.

Last Steam poll showed more than 30 % users are on Win10.

Console wars are over, folks! Next up: PC wars! Who will come out on top between Steam, Microsoft, Origin and GOG? Exciting times!

There would be one good thing in such a scenario though. Valve would be pretty much forced to release Half-Life 3 as a Steam exclusive to fight Microsoft! ^^
