Forums - Music Discussion - Need Suggestions for VGM Study Playlist

I have different tastes when I study so you may or may not like it.

Studio Ghibli OSTs, preferably Joe Hisaishi's 29 Song Golden Collection. He composes music from all of Hayao Miyazaki's films. They're very pleasing and original. My favorite would have to be Porco Rosso's theme and Princess Mononoke's theme.

As for video games, I love me a good classical soundtrack for studying. And you can't go wrong with Dragon Quest VII's "Memories of a Lost World".

Classical music, and music in general, is very mathematic in nature. It helps your brain process and digest information. I've been listening to classical VGM and classical Anime music since highschool and I made straight A's from Freshmen to Senior. And I was going through the toughest time in my life during those last 3 years. It really soothes you and helps you get your mind off of other things that don't matter.

I often default to the Neotokyo OST when I need to focus but want some music - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-pUXTUXfeM&index=4&list=PLBA5D2A3169FBFF3E

There are others (like the original StarCraft's main Terran themes and the SotC OST) but I'm almost certain they're a nostalgia thing for the most part. I never actually played Neotokyo so I know that's a more objective recommendation.

I'm not sure if I'm being helpful by not recommending individual songs, but at least I'm trying.

What I suggest is the Ori and the Blind Forest OST. It's mostly rather relaxing and atmospheric, and really beautiful to listen to. I burned it on a CD and now listen to it while driving, and it's great. For studying, I imagine it'll be even better.

Of course you're being helpful!

@thread thank you for all the suggestions - I'll start getting some preliminary work on it done

I personally prefer more upbeat music to listen to when studying. but like you said, combining different types changes the pace a bit. I noticed the rest have given quite a lot of good ones, so I'm sharing 2 that I find quite nice. First is from an anime Famillar Myth -Heroic Desire https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWlfyXi0KYs
Second is from a vita game - Freedom Wars. Personally my favourite but that is very subjective since I heard this music under the ideal conditions for the first time. BTR - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPSXaqW0CyA
Might not be of much help since these are from my tastes.

Edit: if you really wanna hear music to study, I really do suggest getting a decent set of earphone/ headphones and listening to 320kbps music. Higher quality music is more relaxing to the ears I feel. Plus if i'm not wrong youtube limits the bitrate roughly to 126 kbps. Once you properly hear 320kbps on a decent set of earphones/headphones. It's a quite a difference. Makes listening for long hours less stressful for the ears. Spoken from personal experience.

So the way it's gonna go if I make a video is I will put roughly sixty songs on it for that should equal out to around 5 hours. If I make a playlist for Spotify I will probably have waaaaay more songs but then there is the possibility of the music not being on Spotify in the first place.
Anyhow I'll listen to some songs and get started on making a list now. I have a few in mind already that I'll be throwing in for sure.

Final Fantasy X - Besaid Island

There's the original version, or they redid it for the HD Remaster, both are absolute masterpieces, so I'll let you pick which you like best, but it's such an amazing song, and should be added to any list of video game music!
