Forums - Nintendo - If Nintendo knew then what it knows now about the Wii's success...

Do you think Nintendo would have changed anything in the design if they knew it was going to be as big of a success as it is now?  I would have loved to have seen a bit more graphics power -- just a bit... A dedicated AA chip or something along those lines.  Just enough to really set it apart from last gen but not increase the cost more than about $25 bucks...

Anything you think they would have added/deleted/etc. if they knew for sure it was going to be such a succes?  Or, perhaps, do you think that would have set their decisions in stone even firmer knowing the record money they would be making on the conosle?

I hate trolls.

Systems I currently own:  360, PS3, Wii, DS Lite (2)
Systems I've owned: PS2, PS1, Dreamcast, Saturn, 3DO, Genesis, Gamecube, N64, SNES, NES, GBA, GB, C64, Amiga, Atari 2600 and 5200, Sega Game Gear, Vectrex, Intellivision, Pong.  Yes, Pong.

They would've made the online better, added a small hard drive....10GB max..

Most importantly

THEY WOULD'VE MADE MORE OF THE DAMN THINGS!

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

they would have sold it in the gamecube era

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!

bet with *no one yet* that the combined first week of Monster Hunter 3 in america and europe will be 600k or more! winner changes looser sig and avatar for two months!

they would have improved the online, ramped up production quicker and done something about storage, either 2 or 4GB of flash memory or a microHD.

Manchester United 2008-09 Season - Trophies & Records

Barclays Premier League 2008-09: 1st // UEFA Champions League 2008-09: Finals (Yet To Play) // FIFA Club World Cup: Winners // UEFA Super Cup: Runners-up // FA Cup: Semi-Finals // League (Carling) Cup: Winners // FA (Charity) Community Shield: Winners
Records: First British Team To Win FIFA Club World Cup, New Record for No. Of Consecutive Clean Sheets In Premier League, New English & British League Records for Minutes Without Conceding, New Record For Going Undeafeated In Champions League (25 games ongoing), First British Team To Beat FC Porto In Portugal, First Club To Defeat Arsenal At The Emirates In European Competition, First Team In English League Football History To Win 3 Titles Back To Back On Two Seperate Ocassions

Considering they were making $80 on each console from the start, they could have easily made it HD capable.

Usb HDD support which could be fixed, and slightly better graphics. Not too much.

I think they would have given it a bit more hardware, maybe just enough to get the hand-me down ports of the other consoles. (or at least enough of a hand-me-down to not be a completely new game essentially).

They would have definitely considered getting more of an Online network up and running, it seems so iffy at the moment.

Wiiware would have been available at launch and they would have started with a few original IP titles.

From 0 to KICKASS in .stupid seconds.

I don't think that they would have changed anything about the hardware or the online. They would have produced more Wiis for sure and maybe charged $50 more per unit.

Yep. That about sums it up. It wouldn't make any difference if Nintendo knew because they would still have to support the console with the big hits for the first two years.

Now if DEVELOPERS and PUBLISHERS knew then what they know now about the Wii's success...

They probably as some said would have made more haha. And probably beefed up the online, beefed up the power, and made a peripheal for an HDD. Probably could have still sold it for the same price as well.
