From the footage, the areas don't really fit the art style. The art style is just asking for vibrant and lively areas, so I hope the game has that. The combat looks even worse than Sticker Star from what the trailer shows, and I didn't see any partners. There's also a world map, which is sort of the same as how the worlds are connected by Pipes and other things in The Thousand Year Door, but it's a lot less immersive. It's impossible to tell if the story will be as good as the older ones, so I can't say anything there.
I don't really mind Paper Mario breaking away from copy and pasting the older games, but what they should have done with this game is what The Thousand Year Door did to Paper Mario 64, and not take away the elements that made Paper Mario popular in the first place. Switching the combat in Paper Mario is almost like taking swords out of Zelda.
