For years though MS haven't really cared for mods in their games, even though the only Halo game PC gamers god was modded for a very long time and they never once praised or accepted the fact that people loved modding that game. Mods are just a great asset to PC gaming and really make things interesting and even make our games better in some areas. |
Mods aside, I do feel like I'm a second class citizin now.
I have a capable enough windows 8.1 laptop that I don't want to upgrade to 10 after a bad experience upgrading my old laptop. So next to MS making XBox One feel less desirable, they're also making my windows 8.1 experience feel like I might as well be running Mac OS for all they care. Actually the windows store on my 8.1 laptop has been broken for a long time, I never got to try out project spark as it simply will not download, always stuck on preparing. Confidence level is close to 0.
I'll wait and see how this is all going to turn out. For now I have enough of a backlog not to bother with the MS ecosystem and I'm currently most excited about VR. When I replace my laptop in a few years it will come with Windows 10 anyway.

This is a good point that believe was already brought up. People are acting like Microsoft is now the angel of PC gaming, but PC support should be PC support. Effectively, they are saying that they aren't supporting their older operating systems. This really becomes an issues when comparing Vulkan to DX12. The former supports all the way back to Windows XP (FREAKING XP!) while DX12 only supports Windows 10. The differnt levels of support from different entities is glaring.

This argument just doesn't hold any water. Those same games being on PC doesn't make them inferior. |
nobody said there would be superior and inferior versions, having a console with exclusives who have a uniqueness to the gamer. then add those multiplatform games.

I just did. XBOX Elite bundle -_-'
my question now is, can I have a Steam app on my XBOX? or this unified Windows 10 OS for XBOX is just the XBOX app? I would love to login to Steam using my XBOX and play my steam games on the XBOX since it is literally just a lower end pc.

But X1 still has a uniqueness, the PC ports just give these games a larger audience. For example, PC gamers didnt flock to 360 when Alan Wake was exclusive to 360. But millions acquired it on PC.
I actually think these PC ports are good for MS games to get traction in countries where PC gaming is popular and consoles struggle.

WHy would anyone buy a console with no exclusive content especially when almost all it's content including it's controller and peripherals can be utilized on a device as ubiquitous as the PC?

As far as things go, MS doesn't think you and I actually exist these days. Until we upgrade to 10 we'll start to exist and they will start to throw things your way, until then you're nothing to them. I too had some bad experiences with 10 as I've tried it several times between my desktop and a laptop and I cannot get behind how it looks and runs to be frank and I also cannot get on board for what MS wants to do with PC and Xbox in terms of making PC into a console like closed eco-system.
For me I'll likely just stick with 7 and ride things out with my backlog until Steam OS takes off, if not I'll switch to a variant of Linux, VUlkan is being supported by Valve, Nvidia, AMD and other parties so I'll have that to rely on rather than Windows 10 and DX 12 and be able to use a Vive or OR with my rig by then.
