Honestly if I had bought a Xbox one for 499$ Id be angry now.
That money could have been put to better use on upgradeing your PC.

it is not just about more people having access to games. but getting exclusives to a console is what it is unique for gamers. But I know there are people who wanted to have a single console and all the games they like are available to that console. |
This argument just doesn't hold any water. Those same games being on PC doesn't make them inferior.

I never claimed the windows store was better. I want to purchase my games for the platform I choose and not be locked into a walled garden. I have suffered too many times through steam over the years. locked out of my supposed offline copy of civilization because I had no internet connection due to a steam bug. Forced repackaging of working local games without the option of saying no or do it later. I like old school games where if a game isn't online it should have ZERO requirement for any online service, that includes ANY store tie in, especially steam. |
Doesn't seem that walled to me in terms of games library, mods, customisations of my profile along with other aspects of Steam. I have no issues playing my games in offline mode either and I also buy from Steam, battle.net and GoG. Steam is DRM (but there are so many others as well) but not the absolute gut wrenching shit for all PC players worst kind out there, if anything MS's route is one of the worst attempts at a "walled garden". Sounds like you have internet issues which I guess you should probably sort out at some point rather than telling a client to get his store in order that works for millions. How many new games do you play on PC these days anyway?. (that don't use any DRM at all and are completely SP only)
Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.
If they manage to offer a steam like service on their next "console", they might win me over. 100s of PC games on day one
Interesting to see that some people own $300-400 gaming consoles for literally 1 or 2 exclusives per year. If you're in that position I think Microsoft is doing you a long term favour, PC gaming is clearly your calling and you'll save money in the long run.
I prefer gaming on consoles, exclusives are just the icing on the top

Is that why you wanted the next system to have a load of PC and console exclusives?, basically you want a PC but not a PC.

Nothing specific about exclusives, just a big archive of games like the Steam store. More games = better.
I'm sure most console gamers would prefer PSN/XBL to more robust in that regard (especially price)
that's an interesting way to go for MS
I wonder if they will still offer new Xboxes in the future, which at that point would literally be PCs, but with the benefit that MS Devs (and contracted 3rd parties) will specifically make the games for that configuration (for 1080p/60 with great image quality for example).
It's so awful how Microsoft has handled its gaming business in the last 15 years. Instead of playing to the strengths of both the Xbox and PC platforms, they're fusing them together making Xbox essentially a low end pc. They're doing this because the Xbox is struggling, the Xbox is struggling because they don't have many games compelling people to buy their system, because they don't have many AAA studios. MS had enough time to diversify their 1st party studio portfolio, they're feeling this now that 3rd party deals are much harder to do with the PS4.
What should've happened: 1. not close Ensemble 2. make PC oriented games 3. Steam could've been Microsoft's for chrisssake, it should've been there since Windows 98.

Well in terms of more games for a single gen, probably not the best dream to have, I mean the way PC has gone on this long is because it's open and hasn't died and isn't owned by anyone.
