Forums - Microsoft - hololens gameplay revealed (New Conker game)

Oh god, Conker! What have they done to you? T___T
Also, figures hat Microsoft would turn one of the most beloved N64 IPs into the equivalent of a kinect game... -__-

Also having a cartoon character like Conker jump around in your boring living room is not a good Idea at all.
Part of what makes the character so cool is the world he lives in, and wanting to explore that world. Tearing him out of that and dropping him into your normal environment makes him somehow boring by proxy.

If they made it a full on VR world that reconizes parts of your room and accordingly adapts to it, AKA your couch being a jumpingcastle level in game, that would be cool. But as it is it's this half baked thing.

The minecraft demo did a much better job of blending worlds, but I'm not convinced this device is for gaming. They even said at the end of the video that they are excited to see what other people come up with and that thats where the real surprises will come from. It's supposed to sound inspirational, but it sort of sounds as if they themselves have no idea what to do with it.

That Conker presentation.

I don't know what they were thinking but they must have been high as a kite to warp a cult classic character in such a way that was never really needed. Still I love AR and would like to see more advances along the way, even if I'm not likely to buy one from MS (windows 10 restriction can be seen miles away), I'd love to see other people take a hand at AR.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

Waiting for Apple or Samsung to crack that nut, and supply it with their smart phones.

AR will be big.... 20years from now when hooked up to your smart phone, with mobile games for kids.

Watch this:

Pokemon with smart phone + AR (with AR glasses it could look like the commerical, it would bring this game to the next level).

I remember from last year, my gif still stands.

Playing micro machines on the floor on a self constructed physical course could be fun. Yet I wonder with these examples and others, is there any long term appeal? It all feels at the level of Happy action theater and Kinectimals.

I mean there won't be a Witcher 4 in a living room near you. That would quickly get boring. Same with that Fragments concept. Oh the clue is behind the couch again, never would have guessed! Sure the same level can be fun for certain games, a well thought out, well constructed level that is. Making a game fun in any living room for more than a few wow moments, that's going to be hard.

Multiplayer is where it's going to be with AR. From virtual board games come to life to home laser tag, with added bots! Yet it will be a while before an affordable multiplayer set with decent fov exists.

This is my problem with this atm. I can think of a number of "fun" little games that could be done with this such as Micromachines etc. But how long before the appel wares off and it stops being fun thats the catch.

Thats the part that reminds me of mobile phone games for kids.

With AR you take all level design out of the game.... because it depends on what kinda enviroment your room is.

Level design is a key part of gameing,... for alot of games.

I dont see how you can make a "serious" game for AR.

I can easily see how you could do something like Uncharted in VR, a game like that wont ever be possible in AR.

Like you said be cool for mobile mini type games, but i cant see it having much use for real gaming. Now however i can think of a number of non gaming things this would be cool for. Like projecting a massive 3D Imax screen in your living room (Guess that would also be cool for gaming lol).

Except it can't, it can project a 52" tv at 7ft max. But true once the fov is fixed you could do that. You could all be staring at a blank wall while watching your own tv show. A wider FOV will also allow information and screens to be put outside the center of your vision. Much safer while using it outside. For driving it would be awesome if it can draw in your gps route on top of the road in front of you and highlight traffic at night and other dangers.
The same for the airline industry. Project the runway in front of you in any weather condition without the obstruction of the cockpit.

How did Phil Spencer greenlight that Conker design, I thought he was supposed to be in the loop with sensitive stuff like this?

Phil seems like a decent guy, but he was also around with the XB1 was originally conceived, announced, and released. I think people give him a lot more credit than he deserves.

And yes, this Conker design is awful. It blows my mind that everyone who worked on this project though the design was acceptable.
