For Sony, it's not worth it but for nintendo it is. I think nintendo is trying to make it easier to port games between handheld and home console by coming up with some kind of OS that works on all of their hardware where the games work on either. Maybe, they'll do cross buy. Who knows on that.

Some people think that nintendo is trying to unify both handheld and home console. I doubt it because nintendo found success with both types of consoles so why converge 'em and put all of their eggs in one basket. Sony will because it's home consoles are generally very successful. Anyway, NX is more likely to be a handheld releasing late this year with a home console next year with a similar name.

I think it will be the other way around. If the NX is trying to unify both HH and HC libraries, they'll need a handheld as beefy as possible. Home console first and, once they iron the handheld out, they release it (plus 3DS is getting more games than WiiU). Unified library, maybe with some exclusives for the home console due to power constrains.

Perhaps. I doubt the libraries will completely unify, though. Maybe, not even a half or a quarter of games being shared. Both having their own exclusives would be good for nintendo because people would have more incentive to buy both devices instead of just one. I don't think the handheld needs to be that powerful or the home console for that matter. The HH just needs to be able to play some or most of the HCs games.

I also think there will still be some exclusives, but games like Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Splatoon, 2D games..will definitely be shared.

I'm sure most Nintendo games would work on both devices. The problem would be 3rd parties. Per example, I'm sure Square Enix would love the NX handheld to run FFXV, FFVIIR or DQXI. A Nintendo handheld that could play big home console JRPGs, that kind of handheld would be a dream machine for any big japanese publisher.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Yes, we got that rumour (that in some was is confirmed) saying 3DS will have pretty strong lineup this year with some new games, wile Wii U not even closely such a good line up with have only one unannounced new game.

None of that really means that a new HH wouldn't be launched this year. 3DS will likely be still be supported for at least a year after it's successor is released. What games that are released this year could easily support it for most of next year.

How expensive do you think that would be though?

Just make the handheld 1/4th the power of the consoles, and have it run the same games 1/4th the resolution?

Yes, just because certain types of game (e.g. casual, card-based, social, anything designed for 15-minute short bursts) lend themselves better to a handheld. Others (epic/cinematic games, certain RPGs, FPSes, local multiplayer) are better suited to a home console or PC.

The market that goes for handheld is not necessarily the same market that goes for home consoles, even if there is some overlap.

yes vita phone

It depends on what games it has :p
