It's like an RPG that has bosses that don't do anything different or require any special strategies from normal random encounters, but you have to grind and grind and grind to reach a certain level to beat them. It would be like if Capcom put an hour long hallway in each stage of a Mega Man game where you do nothing but walk from left to right, just so it could say the game is eight hours longer than the previous one.

 

I shouldn't even need to say, it but Nintendo obviously doesn't factor in hacks and probably not even forums, atleast they certainly shouldn't, the game should be able to stand on it's own legs. So without all that, yes trading for an ideal Pokemon would generally be way easier and faster than breeding it yourself, hence it promotes trade. If everyone could easily and quickly breed whatever they wanted, there'd be less reason to trade, but I've said all this already. I'm not saying you have to like it, only that it's designed that way on purpose and it does do it's job.

I'd like to see your proof that the need to take thousands of steps to hatch eggs is what keeps the trading aspect of Pokemon alive. As opposed to things like completing the dex, shinies, or trading for Pokemon needed to breed your ideal mon yourself. 


As it is you can only hope the offerer isn't lying about it's moves, ability, IVs, or if you're making the offer that the trader will fully give you what you asked for. Language barrier makes these sorts of trades impossible with anyone who speaks a language you don't.


These are your words. Since trading for battle-ready Pokemon is a risky propisition in the GTS, and as you also said, Nintendo obviously doesn't factor in hacks and probably not even forums, I don't think the online trading aspect is hinging on the needless aspect of wasting everyone's time.

I don't need to prove something I never said. It just a factor, not the sole reason. The game's trading system is far from perfect, but I think that's mostly a flaw in execution, namely the GTS as explained already.

I don't think it's even so much as a factor. I think it's an outdated artifact from older games that a lot of people think should stay the same because that's the way it's always been, much like HMs. However, this debate seems to have reached it's limit, so we can respectfully agree to disagree.

Well we can agree that we'd rather it not be so tedious, no one likes riding around in circles for hours!
