Forums - Nintendo - Pokémon Direct Feb 26! Get ready 20 year anniversary

I wouldn't call Platinum even close to the best in the series but different strokes for different folks

Deepest lore, most smartly written story, most intelligent Pokemon designs, most smartly constructed region, best and most diverse cast of characters, most expansive post-game content, and it has Toxicroak. No other generation even comes close.

But you know, different strokes.

I've been watching all of them. Only recently (the past year or so) have the Directs gotten less content-packed and more...Memey, but we've still had ones that had actual content to them. The Smash Directs, for example, always end up explaining everything in detail; the Directs in the last year have at least had SOMETHING new to them besides one or maybe two things, spread among quality details of revealed games.

Yeah this five minute trailer is better than XY's four minute trailer and 7 minute history lesson, but only slightly. I'd much rather they explain to a broader audience what the hell Pokken is instead of throwing it out to die, or what this Detective Pikachu is, or even tease other anniversary games than call this bona fide trailer its own Direct. I'm a fan of the whole series, not just mainline games - hell at this point the main series has gotten so stale that I'm only a fan at this point because of the spin-offs. It's gonna take lot to make this a Direct and not just a livestreamed reveal trailer, and I don't think they're gonna do that. It's a disappointment because Pokemon deserves better.

We can't say anything about how much we'll get out without seeing the direct first. Unlike Smash, Pokemon is an adventure game with story and things to be discovered so they shouldn't explain every little detail that way there's still stuff for you to find out as you play.

But again, we already know everything about Pokken, who you make sound like Nintendo hasn't been promoting which is extremely false, and Detective Pikachu is already out in Japan and we don't know if they even plan on bringing it to the west so talking about it in a Worldwide direct would be silly. Basically there isn't anything else worth talking about besides the new game.

To YOU. Do not portray your side of things as if it's the correct one. In this world where Nintendo has localized literally every major exclusive game in the last year or two, including such high selling gems as Fatal Frame. Assuming Nintendo won't localize a Pokemon game on its anniversary is more foolish than thinking they will, so don't act all high and mighty on that.

As for Pokken, they have barely revealed anything themselves. All the information outside of characters themselves have come from leaks, and almost all of the characters were revealed in magazines and that's it. GameXplain has been the primary advertiser for this game and that's pathetic. Again, your perspective may be different but the fact is Nintendo has barely acknowledged the game in the West outside of announcing it and that halfhearted tournament they're doing at Gamestop before launch. The most they've  done is give out early copies so YouTube advertises for them, because a casual Pokemon fighting game isn't literally what a large sect of fans has been begging forgot years or anything. Hell the fans are the ones forcing it into tournaments like Apex. One is only logical in wondering when they're going to put support into the game instead of gracing us with its existence and that's it. Not sure where you're getting the idea that Nintendo/TPC is supporting it but I can only assume it's because the information was given to us from other sources because they're too lazy to put the work into advertising it themselves. And all that is ignoring the other four character slots that are almost certain to contain something either soon or with patches later on.

Now if Sun/Moon are gen 6.5 or 7 I'm more interested because I simply have no interest in 6. It's so incredibly barebones outside of competitive meta and that turns me off even more than Gen 5 did. I'm glad they did it (partially because I called a year before XY was announced that the world and Dex would be small in order to transition into 3D and everybody called me crazy lol), but especially since ORAS went untouched the current Gen 6 is unacceptably small IMO. I'm in the minority there, I know, and that's fine, but if we get a pseudo-Johto and a few new mon I could be hooked into it depending on how it impresses me. But either way as a fan of ALL Pokemon, not just main series, it's infuriating that they're calling this one trailer a Direct and in all likelihood leaving everything else out. Happy Birthday, Pokemon, but screw a good chunk of you! Now go rebuy Gen 1 and love it, and be grateful we even ported it!

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

I never said they'll never localize Detective Piiachu, only that it doesn't belong in a worldwide direct regardless.

Where do you think Corocoro, GameXplain, etc. get's their information from? I honestly don't know much about the tournament scene, though I doubt the Pokemon Championship series are ran by the fans, but why does that even matter? I don't think anyone really cares if the info is directly from Nintendo or not, info is info. Eitherway, I'd say Pokken is getting more promotion than your average Nintendo game, and overall the way they've released information on it has been the same for most Pokemon games.

Yay, 20 minutes to go. I love when that clock appears, it's when all my excitement ramps up!

About to start soon, I will be pleasantly surprised if they show something other than Sun/Moon.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Get ready! Any last hour bets you wanna make?

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I'm not sure if the direct would be about Sun/Moon, but that's my bet. Maybe some surprise in the middle?
