Heya everyone, Cloudman here! So it's been a couple of days since Fire Emblem Fates came out, and before then it has been followed by quite a bit of issues and controversies. And now that's out, I thought maybe with enough hands-on time on it, I figured it would be a good time for players to talk about and share their thoughts on the matter. So, FE Fates players:
What do you think of the game so far?
Which of the 2 did you buy? (Or did you get the special edition?)
Any positive/negative things to say about it?
I have the game myself, special edition, and have been playing it off and on. I decided to play Birthright, since I like the Japanese theme of Hoshido, characters, classes and all.
So far, overall I really enjoy it. The game moves at a quick pace, establishing both sides right away and making a connection with them, which makes choosing a side even harder (at least for me, haha). The gameplay is as fun as ever, with new classes (maids, ninjas, diviners) and weapons (shurikens and animal scrolls), adding new variety into it. The absence of weapon breaking is nice as well. A new feature, dragon vein, adds a new twist to the game play as well, allowing you to set up healing spots, open new paths, making moving easier, and setting off traps, things that may give you or even your enemies an edge. It really deepens the combat in the game. Oh yeah, there are you unique skills for each character, based on the character's personality or expertise.
Surprisingly, I found this game to be a lot harder and downright brutal at times compared to Awakening, especially the beginning stages. I'm playing on hard for Fates, but did the same with Awakening and still found that to be easy. I figured out that the changed to the pair system has added to the difficulty, giving the option to the opponents as well, which really makes me have to reconsider my movements and charactert placements. I have had it many times where enemies aline their units, allow many double attacks on my units and killing them off. Of course, I lose units many times which resulted in restarts. And sometimes, there are a lot of enemies on screen, along with traps, which makes it quite difficult for the player.
Oh, I forgot to mention another cool feature added to this game: My Castle. This area acts as you hub space where you can talk to units, manage inventory and manage supports. Though another cool thing you can do is add new buildings to this space, which really adds to the amount of things you can do here. Later on, you can buy gear, try your hand at the lottery, wager items at the colosseum, and even relax at the baths. I end up wasting some time here playing around, haha.
As for issues, the main ones I have are voices and character customization. Most of the character voices are good, minus Hinoka from Birthright. I feel the voice just... doesn't fit. It's something that bothers me everytime she appears on screen and speaks. I feel they missed the mark on her. The male protagonist voice also feels off. It doesn't break the game, but I felt they could have done better. Male hair seems to be an issue as well. Basically everyone I have talked to has picked the same hair style as me. I found most of the hair choices were not so good, but others must feel the same as well, since we have all picked the same one, and even then, I don't find it very good.
Hmm, so that about covers my thoughts on the matter. I'm really enjoying it overall. It is really fun, interesting and looks great...
Other Fates players, how do you feel about it? : )
