Forums - Gaming - Japanese Indie Game puts Indies like the Witness to shame (only 12 $, PS4, Xbox One & PC)

That game isn't exactly a stellar masterpiece or anything but I definitely do see price point being a very important factor with gaming as it is with all other products around the world. Anyone who doesn't see PP being anything short of important aren't exactly being honest, there are businesses that spend a good amount of time and effort into researching the right PP, they don't just throw a dart on the board for a price and call it a day.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

That said... I wish someone made the campaign longer (where the hell are my 40 hour story games?!)

As far as I know 40$ is still considered a budet game, and more akin to AA. Also you do realize that 'Indie' literally just means without help of a major publisher/self published? It says absolutely nothing about the quality of the game, if it's Indie or not.

Besides, pricetags are determined by production costs like engine (or possibly building an engine), teamsize, electricity bills etc as well as production value and content. By his own admission Jonathan Blow has poured several millions of his own money into making The Witness with a decently sized team. All these expenses need to be paid. Would you rather people doing the exact same Job get paid less, just because they aren't backed by a publisher?

This vid by the way, looks nice enough, but this has absolutely no bearing on the Witnesses price.
In the end The Witness is a 100 hour puzzle game and this one is going to be a 2-hour hack n' slash. Even if both of them offered the exact same high production values, The Witness still has consideraby more content.

So action=good quality, unique & deserving of a high price?

God forbid someone puts time and money into intelligent puzzle design instead of character models and fighting animations.

so people here saying the Witness takes 70h but what people dont get is that these 70h are repetitive as hell. The game has no characters, no voice acting, no music or any substance, and most of the times you will stare at some 2D puzzles who look like they came straight from a Testbook from school. Look at this review above and tell me it still worth 40 bucks?

I would take Mitsurugi which last 2 hours at any day, Quality > Quantity.

Its not even worth $1.

I played it on PC few weeks back (got it from a $1 humble bundle last year) - its horrible in the form of repetitiveness and it being short.

Game focuses on large repetitive fights in similar and boring looking areas - focuses on difficulty to make the game challenging and long rather than pure content.

UI is terrible and generic.

Animation and visual design looks more like a psuedo PS1/PS2 game rather than a current gen.

I dont recommend it unless you want to try it out - I would wait for a PSN Flash sale for it, it'll get cheaper sooner rather than later.

Edit: What is shown in the trailer is the entire game.

You clearly dont know anything about graphics if you think this games looks like a PS1/PS2 game. And even if, given the fact that most indies are now 2D games Mitsurugi is a higher quality indie game.

People will make threads about the damnedest thing. How is this is even related to the Witness?

I really don't get the Indie hate and the price point hate. You guys see movies at the theater, right? You guys eat out, right? You guys pay bills, right? It occurs to me that most of you may be kids...so maybe not...but my point still stands: $20-40 for a game IS NOT that bad. I would rather spend $20 on game that I can play off and on for a week or so, then spend $18 to see an IMAX 3D movie.

So is this thread just to bitch about the price of The Witness or something? If you think it's worth complaining about then obviously you want the game so why not just buy it and see if it's worth the asking price rather than demanding something for nothing?

i wouldnt care about the Witness if it wouldnt be for the media giving it all the 9s and 10s and of course the 40€ price tag

Hahaha, yeah...says the 87 metacritic w/ 68 reviews.

Get that clown off this site. He hasn't got a clue what he's talking about and lies along with his buddies Crapgamer, nextgen720 and Mooch. To compare that generic, flat and uninspired game to The Witness is an insult. Why have you decided to drag The Witness into this anyway?
