I appreciate hearing that Sony is not intervening in what he wants to do. Reinforces a lot of my hope towards projects that are funded by Sony,

Whatever game he makes is going to be like the best-selling game he's ever made thanks to this whole controversy.


Wait so it's going to be exclusive to PlayStation? I thought there was a pc release on the table as well

By the time it comes,out the controversy will be years on the past and Kojima has games which sold very well, for any exclusive game to sell above that it has to be because of the game strengths itself, there won't be 6M people buying it on 2018+ just because Kojima had this issue with Konami in 2015. The game definitely has to have a lot of hype around it's qualities for that to happen. |
I think you underestimate the kojima fanbase

But see, your doubt rests on the idea that Kojima won't be able to make a great game.
His last worked on project was PT, called by almost everyone, "the first real horror game in years". This is the kind of effect that Kojima has on games. Some people call him a one-trick pony, but you don't make mgs3, widely held in high regard by many, and think that it has anything to do with the theme. It's the writing, direction, vision, etc. If you've played his other games, ZoE or Snatcher or Policenauts, you'd see that this guy has a dramatic flair, and is always heavily involved in story driven scripts.
Anyway, I'm not trying to make this a debate. I just don't think any of his ability comes specifically from the mgs theme. MGS is simply a Kojima story wrapped in a spy/espionage blanket. Remember, he made mgs for NES. There's almost none of the same style except for the creative storyline and mind-fuckery. MGS for PS1 was due no success from his NES work. It got it on its own merit, and I think he'll be fine no matter what he puts his hands on.
I think it's even more probable for him to have a better game now as he isn't tied down or rrestricted by the company sponsoring him. He can now do whatever he wants, where Konami previously would censor him here and there.
EDIT: In fact, you know, he reminds me a lot of the late Michael Creighton. MC wrote Jurassic Park and loads of other sci-fi type thrillers. Anyway, MC always did heavy heavy research into what he was talking about. Like, the guy didn't just make up things like nano-bots, he actually used them in a proper way, scientifically explaining everything. Like, in Jurassic Park, there's a section on reproductivity and chromosomes that goes on for pages and it's really in depth. That's how detail oriented Kojima is. And really, attention to small details is what makes people feel completeness in a game.


I hope it's not a generic action game, and something close to the spirit of "Metal Gear" without it being Metal Gear. Stealth genre became my favorite because of Metal Gear, and the strong narrative (while goofy today) was what kept me hooked from beginning to end. If he can do that with his next title, I think we'll have a winner.
