Biggest updates of March and June are free
Others (characters) are both free or paid..you pay if you don't want to spend fight money on them. All can be obtained for free regardless.

Hardly, SF4 launched on consoles with 25 characters. This has 22. I think people expect too much sometimes and if each entry in a fighting series needs to beat the last in terms of playable characters then games like SF or Tekken would have rosters in the 60s when really people only play ryu and Kazuya.
Hmm, pie.

Spent more time on refining the gameplay and experience than putting in characters nobody played? They would have seen the numbers from online matches in SF4 so would have known who to put in the game. |
Oh, they'll add them later. They knew who to remove just to add them on a blatant DLC later on.
From a 94 to a 83 on metacritic. Still a good score but the game must be lacking a lot.
They can make it like Splatoon, but is not the same to do that with a new franchise with no previous references than with an old one plenty of past games with way more content, there are tons of fans with expectations getting less than ever. And lets see how much of that extra content is really free because there is a 30$ season pass for the next 6 characters.
Anyways, looks like Smash Bros is gonna stay as the best scored fighter of this gen by miles.
Expectations: I am sure it will be as good as all the other SF games, my favorite fighting franchise.
Am I excited: No. I got SFIV day one on Xbox 360 (actually my wife paid off my preorder and surprised me with it) and I played quite a bit of it, but I never got Super SFIV or Super Duper Mega SF IV or the Ultra or whatever on PS4. Just not much into fighters anymore except in a casual MP setting. Like arcades! But they are dead.

Its hard to do in a traditional 2D fighting style game. PSASBR/SSB and 3D Fighters (Naruto/DBZ/etc) are the ones that can pull it off due to the mechanics of said game

I just read the 50 / 100 review on Metacritic.

Even this review acknowledges that the gameplay is phenomenal.
The game is sitting in a comfortable 83 / 100 for now.
