Forums - Nintendo - Why I'm not buying "Fire Emblem Fates"

I'm not planning to play all 3 versions. I have made my choice as to which side I want to be on, and I'm ready to play.

Well don't keep us all in suspense: are you going to be a weeaboo or a dudebro?

But imagine all this content for still 40 dollars! That's a good deal and GOTY material.

1. Im not quite sure if one single 3DS cartridge can handle all of that.

2. Just like every company/business, they want money. If they think they can get more money by doing it this way then........ I don't see them not doing it this way.

I just made a topic about the details of the content of each version. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=213755
You should take a look.
But in case I wasn't clear in here or over there, I'll try to explain. After the first 5 chapters, you chose a side. The plot will still remain the same in Conquest and Birthright after this choice (although it will deviate somewhat in Revelations), but the story will mostly be new in that the dialogues you see will mostly be different. But here's an example to illustrate what I mean about repeated maps. Let's say you are playing Birthright, and you are on a map called Fort Jinya. And your opponents on this map are the Nohr family.
Now when you play Conquest, you will also play the same Fort Jinya stage, but this time your opponents will be the Hoshido family. It will largely be the same battle, since it takes place on the same stage, but with some different dialogue because you're now on the other side.

Well that's disappointing. I guess not wholly unexpected, but disappointing nonetheless.

When I saw the reveal trailer, I was super hyped for this game, but now, it's not even a Day 1 buy for me anymore.. Splitting the game up into 2 was a terrible turn off for me but I don't really mind the 3rd DLC too much

Awakening did not have free DLC unless you include Spotpass as well as the promo free DLC if you got the game early..

*shrug* for me it's the English VA-only issue
I would put up with this if it wasn't for that

We are hyped because its not one game chopped in 3, its actually 3 full length fire emblem games.

If you buy just one, you should still have a complete fire emblem experience. The other options are "what if" scenarios.
Of course, i don't really like that the choice is made in the act of buying. It would be awesome if the two main choices were in just one game.

They're not 3 full length Fire Emblem games when it comes to new content. If I replay Awakening over and over again, each playthrough will have the same amount of content, but not new content.
Getting only 1 new character (which is what happens when you play the third version) doesn't constitute as a new FE game to me. When I first played Awakening, I got 49 new characters, and 50 new maps/stages, along with a brand new story.

Also, while the second or third games can be decribed as "what if" scenarios, make no mistake, they add crucial new pieces a single constant puzzle. Mainly the third one. You have to play the third version to find out the true story. Not a "what if" story, but one that was always present in the previous two versions as well, but hidden.

If you've played Zero Escape: Virtues Last Reward, or it's prequel 999, you'll understand what I mean.
If you just end the game after one playthrough, you'll never know who the real killer is, etc.

This reply comes late because another thread was already made, but i didn't say new content, nor it needs to be. This is just like Shining force 3 maybe not even as bad. That game was awesome, so i don't see why this one can't be. SF3 was also sold in 3 parts.

Don't forget though... This is nintendo, they are the moon the sun the light. They are the messiah in the gaming community, everything they do is for the gamer and is justice.
40 dollars fro one
40 for another
20 for fates
20 for additional maps
20 for additional dlc only characters.
If EA did this they'd be all over the media, but since its nintendo its okay....they are our messiah after all

PSn - greencactaur
Nintendo Switch FC - SW - 5152 - 6393 - 5140 Please feel free to add me :)

If the two games were like Pokemon, where the content in there is very similar, i would certainly see where you're coming from, but if i remember correctly, both games have their own story, though correct me if i'm wrong

But yeah, the splitting on Fates into two games does really look like a move from Nintendo to just rake in more cash honestly.
