Forums - Nintendo - Birdman and the Casual Fallacy ( Sean Malstrom )

Sullla said:
Malstrom is one of the few individuals who really understands what's going on in the gaming world today. There are a number of things I wish he would do better: use less rhetoric, cut some of the fawning admiration of Nintendo, and split up his massive editorials into smaller parts for easier reading. But overall, these kind of articles are pure gold. This one really puts into perspective just how foolish the third-party approach to the Wii has been thus far.

It's a shame that we can't have everyone at VGChartz read through this. It might cut down on some of the ignorant comments that surface online so frequently.

I knows what you mean Sullla, the point however is that even if Malstrom's articles were easier to read very few people on Internet will read them because they are for people very interested in VG business/mechanichs ( they are for an elite ... ).

Here on VGChartz , that is a site catering vg business side in theory, only a minority of the fast growing forum userbase want/will read article of this caliber ( and probably they already had a vision similar to Sean of what is going on in the VG Industry ). For example I think to user like RolStoppable, Erik Aston etc. ( older user of VGC ).

Fantastic read! I showed it to my brother and he loved it too. Makes me wonder what the next few years will be like. Will there really be a time when Nintendo is going to also have the dominant games for the upstream as well though maybe from third parties.

Sean Malstrom  has written many insightful articles. Many of them, before Wii's launch, describe exactly why Wii will become dominant. Sean is a very smart guy.

If you or your brother are interested on them, you find them here:

Good read

What I should put in my sign ?

I enjoy reading this man's articles. they're really good.

That article pretty much nailed it on the head. Nintendo's goal isn't casual gaming, it's disruption.

There is no such thing as a console war. This is the first step to game design.

Sometimes I wonder if the dominance of the Playstation 1 and 2 weren't the culmination of a work done by nintendo and sega. Maybe nintendo saw this and are going through the motions again but this time are going to be right at the finish line to reap what they've sown. If that's the case and they are not reaping yet then I shudder

wow! that was an awesome article!

A year later, and I finally read this article, blown away at how on point this guy was/is. Incredible.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.
