Forums - Sales - How does the PS4 sell so much in Japan?

Well you mean lack of software sales/dominators, what I just see is a console that got support from mayor companies and even got some normal heavy hitters like bloodborne/MGS5 and a large group of games that did +100k from the Dynasty warrios, to A tales of game to games like COD/F4/Witcher3.

I just find it awkard that someone can see the console sales and make that thread title while mine would rather have been 'How isthe Wiiu is still first in Japan?'

The answer to that question is easy... Splatoon is the main reason why the Wii U is still out in front.  The PS4 would be ahead of Wii U in Japan if they didn't release Splatoon.

From Kylee's thread

Japan software sales in January 2016:

1. 3DS with 782k
2. PS4 with 610k
3. PSV with 529k
4. Wii U with 296k

The eternal mistake of non-PS users misreading PS SW continues. And I doubt it'll ever end

My main mistake I believe is that I focus too much on the top 10 list.  I don't even bother looking at games below it.  So I suppose this has skewed my view on PS4 software sales in Japan.

But, again, he's talking relatively. "Sells so much considering a certain lack of software" is different from "sells so much compared to everyone else".

They get support, but due to dev cycles the number of games is far below PS1 and PS2 era and even PS3 era.

Lots titles selling small numbers

Wondered this alot myself. If I had to guess it's due to anticipation of future titles and more consistently selling software. Also throw in the fact that it's a media center of sorts that can help it out a bit.

Ps4 sells more software than wii u

Thread moved to Sales Discussion.

OP: I think that's due to excitement about future games and current releases being decent games/sellers.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

No the main reason it's ahead is the 18 month head start it's had.  The ps4 hasn't even been out 2 years.  It's unrealistic to expect it to overcome an 18 month advantage in under 2 years especially when the Wii U has had most of its heavy hitters release and the ps4 hasn't.

It's doing so much better relatively and it will end up outselling the Wii U at least double lifetime.
