How does the PS4 sell so much in Japan?

Well you mean lack of software sales/dominators, what I just see is a console that got support from mayor companies and even got some normal heavy hitters like bloodborne/MGS5 and a large group of games that did +100k from the Dynasty warrios, to A tales of game to games like COD/F4/Witcher3.  

I just find it awkard that someone can see the console sales and make that thread title while mine would rather have been 'How isthe Wiiu is still first in Japan?'

They get support, but due to dev cycles the number of games is far below PS1 and PS2 era and even PS3 era.
