Forums - PC - New PC Question! Please help!

I'm planning on buying a new PC (i have a really old one right now... Somewhere 2003/2004 or something).

So i was planning on buying a new one! I don't game on a PC. Only Starcraft! Although i do want it to run Starcraft 2!

I don't plan on buying a really expensive one and my budget is around 800-900 euro's.

The set-up that i'm planning to buy is this one:

HP Pavilion m9170.

Processor: AMD Phenom Quad-core 9500.

L2 Cache: 2Gb.

Internal memory: 3076Mb.

Internal Memorytype: DDR2 SDRAM.

Maximum internal memory: 4Gb.

Graphic Adapter: nVidia GeForce 8500GT.

Maximum graphic adapter memory: 1791Mb.

HDD-capacity: 750Gb.

HDD-Rotationspeed: 7200RPM

Do you guys think this is any good for 800-900 euro's and do you guys think this can run Starcraft 2?!... (Starcraft 2 is an RTS, they don't require THAT much graphical power i believe...)

The specs aren't really clear there. 2GB of L2 cache?!

Edit: Oh, just saw your link.

From what I can discern, here are the specs:

Processor: AMD Phenom 64 9500 @ 2.2GHz
RAM: 3GB DDR2 (PC????)
Video card: nVidia 8500 GT 256MB (512MB?)
HDD: 750GB SATA 7200RP

According to this site and several others with similar lists of requirements it will play Starcraft II. Though, those are just estimates. Based on a quick, similar build with online prices here in Australia, I'd estimate that for just the box without software, it's worth around 400 Euros.

it will play Starcraft 2, but you might want to see if you can get a cheaper one

That computer is fine although it seems kind of expensive though I do not know the prices of computers in EU.

The only thing you might want to upgrade is your video card; 8500gt is a pretty low end card. It still good enough to play games maybe just not on top settings.

Also the maximum ram is 4gb but how much is there IN the pc?

Edit: I hadn't noticed you posted the amount in the OP.

Just remember that you won't get a display with it.

Remember; Starcraft II will probably have a lot lower req's than most think, even Starcraft 1 demanded very little of your rig at the time of its arrival.
There's no doubt you'll play Starcraft II with all settings on virtually max, possibly without a single glitch.
Blizzard make games that are kind to the weaker systems, and I can't think of a single Blizzard title that was taxing on a PC

Short version; you'll do fine, the rig is ample to play it!

What a "duur stuk stront"as we Dutch tend to say. This pc is overpriced and underpowered and here's why:

The processor is the only part of this set up that deserves the title ok.

The L2cache of 2mb on the processor is not something you want to promote if you look at the 4 that intel offers.

The chassis is part of the hp family, known for being noisy, unable to transfer heat properly and cheaper then a Vietnamese hooker.

3 gigs of ram with what timings? That type of info is extremely important and any pc that doesn't have those listed isn't worth looking at.

An 8500 gt is plain terrible, for the budget you have you can get yourself a way better pc and be able to play more then just Starcraft which will undoubtedly lag during battles with tons of adversaries. Just the thing you need afetr paying so ridiculously much for a pc that is already outdated.

The rest of the specs aren't worth my trouble.

Conclusion: bad outdated pc with a gpu that bottlenecks the system during gaming. The onboard 8500 gt is meant for displaying Aero properly, not to play games on it as well.

I would stay away from the Phenom. Go with an Intel Quad-Core. It is more powerful than AMD's processor.

Dosen't the 9600 have a gig of memory?

Edit - Oh, its the 9800 that has 1 GB of memory. Wow!  SLI this baby!!

8500GT = junk ass card. You probably don't want to play SC2 with slideshow framerates so go with something better.

If you want a quad-core, go weith intel. AMD's offerings are not that great compared to intels Q line up.

If SC2 is your priority with this new PC, it wont hurt waiting until its released.

crappy old school NES games are more entertaining than next-gen games.
