Forums - Nintendo - Sounds like Link will remain silent in Zelda Wii U

Personally since I started gaming with Pokémon I prefer mute playable characters to those who talk, if they can talk then they'll most likely put in your mouth words that aren't yours or that differ from your idea, plus it's safer to do so because there WILL BE people disliking the voice since different people have different tastes...

Those people can fuck off then, lmao. That's literally the silliest and most shallow reason to not do something. Because "some people" might not like it. Some people" don't like that there's no voice acting now. "Some people" don't like that Link is a silent protagonist. "Some people" can just play another game.

Why would Link speak? He doesn't even have text in the vast majority of games he appears in. The rest of the cast speaking or Samus in Metroid speaking makes sense, they have had dialogue before. But Link is and always has been a silent protagonist.

I hope he doesn't talk.... xD

Thats true but I doubt it will happen when it comes to Zelda U. We will see when it comes out though

I don't think it has never been more likely than it is now. That being said, I would be 100% unsurprised if it didn't happen and you were right. I also would and fully expect the biggest backlash against it that any Zelda game is ever had on the topic. It's going to happen. If not with this game, with the next one after the response is so negative.

It's actually blowing my mind just how many people are blatantly misreading what is being said here.

Well, I read the quote that used the words "hear Link's voice.". Which strongly implies an audio meaning.  However, my confusion and reasoning still stands.  Why would people beg for him to speak?  What group is asking for this?  90% of Zelda fans I've seen go crazy if you so much as hint at Link speaking or the game getting VA.  So what group is asking for this again that is significant enough to be addressed d?

Call me crazy, but I highly doubt that the 90% of Zelda fans you've seen react negatively are, in actuality, 90% of all Zelda fans.

Good! Link with a voice would be weird.

I hope they keep him silent but at the same time I think it would be cool to have a zelda game where link actually talks :P

Oh I'm not saying my experience is 100% representative.  Just that I've never seen much to go against that.  I wouldn't blow a gasket myself either way.  But I just don't see the point.  Link doesn't often have much distinct personality except for Wind Waker and Skyward Sword.  He's usually just the player's link to the world, hence the name.

Shoot, even that excellently done fan dub of Skyward Sword doesn't have Link speak until the very very end.  So yeah, Link speaking in text or voice doesn't seem to be in high demand.  Even less so then VA actually, I'd warrant.

Disclaimer:  I've not played and/or watched every Zelda so keep that in mind.
