So out of $21.3 billion in revenue, they profited less than a billion?

What in the hell?

Well for the Full year before this one they had around $68.8 billion in revenue and had a loss of a billion.

Year before that was $75 billion in revenue and $1.25 billion loss.

So as you can see the revenue does not matter too much.

As the saying goes: revenue is vanity.

Analysts are expecting about 176 Billion Yen (1.48 Billion USD) profit, down from last years' 182 Billion Yen.  Source was wrong :-3

Revenue: 2580 billion Yen = 21.3 Billion USD

Net Income (profit): 120 Billion Yen = 993 million USD

PS4 shipments: 8.4 million

Gaming segment operating income: 40.2 Billion Yen = 333 million USD

Other notable events: The annual forecast for their Devices segment, which includes their image sensors was revised downwards by 82 Billion Yen

So Nintendo actually made more money than Sony did in gaming? Wtf.

Nintendo-336 Sony 333. Pretty much a tie. But with Nintendo they sell amiibos and lots of 1st party and is late in their console cycles which typically reaps the most profits.

Also this goes back to revenue. Sony did 587.1 vs Nintendo 425.6, but Nintendo made more profit because it was mostly software vs hardware for Sony. Once the PS4 is late in its console cycle it should produce more profit.

MS also makes a lot more profit due to software (Windows, Office, etc.)

Hm, this makes me wonder if these companies are all laughing at us for arguing over unit sales. If Nintendo can make more money (for whatever reasons) than Sony even though the PS4 is kicking the holy hell out of the Wii-U, unit sales CAN'T be all that important.

Very interesting.

The big picture is pretty important too though. Since the PS4 and XB1 came out, their gaming divisions have not really had a loss but Nintendo did.

PS4 and XB1 doing pretty well means their gaming divisions are set for 2 to 3 years, meanwhile Nintendo has to go through R&D, marketing and release their next console(s). Then of course the cycle continues.

EA made more profit too at 395 :(.

No they did not.  Nintendo's operating income is for three quarters, nine months, which is the 40 Billion Yen.  Sony's gaming division is 40 billion for one quarter, 3 months and would be 60 billion if it wasn't for currency.

So in order words Sony made in the last three months what Nintendo has made so far this fiscal year.

Where did you get that Nintendo made $336M? I'm seeing $240M.
