Make no mistake, the real problem is dust. Smoking simply generates a great deal of dust, along with a bunch of aerosol tar which makes they problem even stickier.

It's entirely possible to have this issue without being a smoker. Smoking just makes it more probable.

This is actually funny. I have some colleagues at work who smoke and their Wii would not play SSBB. The rest of us don't smoke and had no problems.
Their Wii got lung cancer now

Welcome to last month, fellas. This is nothing new.

Not to mention cigarrette smoke can hinder operation of all disc-reading hardware - not just the Wii.

Thank you.  It is crazy that people are still creating threads about this stuff.

This is true.  Keep your room where you game clean and it won't be an issue either.

Also, for all of you smokers taking offense to this:  It's been the case for years that cigarette smoke causes issues with any electronic device that reads with an optical sensor.  Your habbit does actually cause errors in electronics.

OI!!! naznatips u stole my sig phrase and made it snazier!!! you are now my mortal enemy!!!

Smoke is not the cause, most Wii's with the problem are owned by non smokers, it's faulty hardware, this has already been discussed.

Wii failure rate is <3% according to analysts.  Just as the PS3 is.  The 360 on the other hand rests at around 16.6% and the PS2 was over 15% in its day.  Don't troll, especially not about things you know nothing about.
