You do realize the Nintendo DS was announced, shown, and launched within like 9 months right?
The 3DS also was announced, unveiled, and released to market in under 12 calendar months.
People know what the Wii U. They just don't want one. Nintendo can sell it for another 5 years and there still will be many people who don't want one.
