Forums - Gaming - Should there be an EA/Ubisoft/Activision Tax on the industry?

Yeah, look, it's not very amusing or interesting. Lame joke threads are just spam.

What is this post then? He raises a good point. Just because it's hidden behind a joke doesn't mean it should be ignored. Wether you've discussed it to death before on the site or not.

45% tax on all DLC is a good point?  Are you serious?

Even if we pretended that was possible, which is itself ridiculous, it doesn't even make sense.  Games are bigger than they've ever been.  If they aren't making money when they produce this extra content then they're simply not going to make it at all.

Even from a practical standpoint, the idea is awful.  Why do we want the government to make extra money off the gaming industry?  Why do we even want to allow them to tax anything at such an insane rate?  Beyond that, by what right does anyone decide for others that they shouldn't have DLC?

If it's such a good point, please explain how.

you seem to be under the delusion that it would be the companies paying the tax, They would simply increase the price of DLC to cover the tax and say "don't blame us for the pricing, the government are screwing you not us"

I know this is a joke thread but I don't see why games don't cost more.  I'm surprised costs haven't raised them to $80.

$60 for hours upon hours on entertainment is cheap.

l <---- Do you mean this glitch Gribble?  If not, I'll keep looking.

No. Who's making ridiculous jokes now? I don't remember discussing a tax on dlc ever. Let alone a ridiculous one like that. Please.

I have had another post in the thread. Why not try reading that? Or what others have written? The OP has generated discussion, despite many here simply thinking it's purely a joke.

all that is going to do is cause an increase in the prices for their poor customers. their customers get ripped off enough as it is, and theyre the ones who are going to fee the affects of this tax.

Wait, what?  You quote my post, which was clearly directed toward the OP, and say that he had a point.  I discuss what the OP said because that's what your reply talked about, and now you're asking me why I didn't address your other post which actually came after my initial post?

That doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

If you don't want to talk about what the OP said then don't bring it up.  If you want to talk about what you said in a separate post then you can damn sure repeat or quote what you said when you reply to me.  I'm not going to go, "hm, maybe he had another post, I should check the thread before I reply and talk about that, even though it had nothing to do with mine."  I'm not going to do your work for you.

Holy cats.

"I hate how this DLC is like $10 for so little."

"Lets put a 45% tax on it!"

"I hate how this DLC this is like $18.19 for so little."

With such a tax those companies would make even more money by increasing the price on DLC and blaming it on the tax. As if the average gamer could calculate what 45% of something is.

nope because if DLC was more expensive consumers would not buy it then companies like EA will change their tune!

Yeah right. Do you even know who buys DLC? It's people who are especially invested in a certain game. Do you think those people care if the $10 DLC now costs $15? Nope.

All im saying is if there was a 45% tax on the season pass for a game like destiny for instance, no one would pay 160+ dollars at launch (200+ dollars for our neighbors in the north). Companies would be forced to lower the price and omit dlc gamers win!
