Forums - Sales - PS4 passes PS3 launch-aligned sales in Japan

Not sure how ps4 slim will help. Ps3 slim took off because the original ps3 Was too freaking expensive. Ps4 doesn't have that problem. The games coning soon however, should negate this

Didn't the PS3 slim release without a pricecut?

Interesting. But the PS3 had some amazing final years on Japan, it was really a late bloomer, so let's hope the PS4 can keep this advantage for some time!

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

They told me consoles where dying in Japan. This was supposed to explain Xbox One's lackluster numbers as even the PS4 was down. But alas, now its just the Xbox that is down. Almost everything that every analyst said has been proven wrong.

PS1+N64+Saturn=roughly 30 million

PS2+GC+XB+DC=roughly 30 million

PS3+Wii+360=roughly 25 million

PS4+Wii U+XB1=currently under 5.5 million

And the title of the article is that the PS4 passed the PS3 aligned launch.  So you decided to pit this against Life Time sales?  You should probably save that for the end of the gen and instead show me something relevant to the convo.

Yeah it did, but unlike the ps3 the ps4 price isnt holding back sales so I cant see a ps4 slim doing what the ps3 slim did for the line. It's all up to the games at this point id say.

And the big hitters are still on the way. Ps3 never got s dragon quest title, the top selling game on the ps2 in Japan was dragon quest.

Still will be 10 million less than the previous gen, and half of the previous 2 before that.  There's no getting around that.  Software sales are even more ugly of a comparison.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

I'm well aware of what the title is but look at ur previous post, "they told me consoles were dying in Japan" u were talking about the console market as a whole and unless these consoles have a extra 20 million sales left in them (they dont) than the console market will decline this generation.

The Xbox One is not making a case by selling less than a Thousand Units weekly over there tho.

Microsoft: 223 Consoles Sold between Xbox 360 and Xbox One in a whole week.

Pretty difficult to shatter any records when the responsability rest on just one (maybe two) console shoulders.

Even if we make this comparison just Playstation+Nintendo, the numbers don't look good.

PS1+N64=25 million

PS2+GC=27 million

PS3+Wii=23 million

So the last 3 generations have sold roughly 25 million for Playstation+Nintendo. PS4+Wii U won't even hit 20 million (probably a few million below), the Japanese market is in decline, it's not even a debate. Is it dead? No, not even close but certainly declining.
