Maybe that should be retakes the lead seeing as it started ahead.

I wonder if it'll change hands a few more times or will PS4 stay ahead now?

That curve is looking pretty good, I´d like to see more months ahead since ps3 took off after slim.
I wonder if we´ll have ps4 slim soon, that should help even further along with some japanese releases set to launch this year.

looks like it might be a bit short lived for now as the PS3s 3rd holiday-boost seems to start soon in that comparison

should set a great foundation for PS5

Good to see that Japan is slowly moving towards current gen. Hopefully more eastern orientated games accelerate this.

Just for matter of clarity, what weeks does PS3 and PS4 launched aligned cover the holiday period.

From the chart PS3s sales curve seems to pick up in the next few weeks so PS4 may fall behind again

Well even if it goes back and fourth for awhile it does show that the console market is recovering in Japan some. 2016 is pretty stacked for Sony on all fronts all year round (unless delays). So they should take a firm lead by the end of 2016 maybe.

It doesn't seem likely this generation will last as long as the PS3 did though. The weak hardware in these current systems feels like a ticking time bomb to me.

VR could be a surprise element especially in the tech-friendly japanese market though, but the chance of it drastically altering the PS4 trajectory is very very slim

Considering last holiday was just the second for PS4, don't think it matters in the long run.

PS3 Slim is a much better factor and that's still just a year away launch aligned and who knows with Sony, they may be prepping for a PS4 slim too.

Very true. My personal opinion of VR isn't a good one but VR flourishing in Japan for awhile wouldn't surprise me. May be more popular there then anywhere else possibly. I can definitely see them be heavy early adopters of VR, regardless of if VR tech needs to cook another 5+ years IMO. =p
