Forums - Nintendo - Double Take: Xenoblade Chronicles X Sales Indicate Market for JRPGs on Nintendo Consoles

Wow. If you release a game for a platform it will eventually sell. Wow!

I expect Nintendo to become one of the biggest JRPG players, together with Atlus and Squenix. You could argue that they are already there, even if only in third place. Depending on how good X does, their JRPG support will, hopefully, increase in the future.

And now you can add another one with:

Xenoblade

and 2 more with Fire Emblem (kind of)

and 2(4?) more with Mario RPG

Personally I think the sales are inflated due to the lack of competition for RPGs on the Wii U and secondly due to the lack of games in general.

Nintendo fans didn't have much else new to choose from in November and December so it's inevitable that X gets a boost. 200k+ in the US is definitely good for the game but you're not going to see 3Rd party RPG developers rushing back to support them.

Every game that bombed on the WiiU was also released with a lack of options and competition, yet they bombed, and very hard, XCX however, in the same scenario, didnt bombed. There is an audience, period.

II never said there wasn't an audience.  But there's no doubt the sales were inflated.  It literally had no competition from new releases this December and November in the US.

"Literally" no, because Mario Tennis, Animal Crossing and Devils Thrid were also released in Nov-Dec.

A Nintendo game seeing some success on a Nintendo console is not indicative of anything.

This game is the less Nintendo-like game that Nintendo has ever done, it doesnt make you think on them at all, Monolith style is very very different from Nintendo style. This game would have been equalliy succesfull if released by Ubisoft, in fact it would have been more succesfull, since Ubisoft would have made a way better marketing of the game than Nintendo. So yes, this is an indicative of something, what if Nintendo made a game like Dark Souls and it turns up to be succesfull on their consoles? wouldnt that be an indicative of something just because Nintendo did it even when the game is nothing like what Nintendo uses to do? It makes no sense.

Where did I ever say it was Nintendo-like?

And yeah actually it does make sense since, historically and currently speaking, the games that generally see success on a Nintendo console are, Nintendo published titles.

If you feel it indicates that JRPGS can succeed on the WiiU then please tell me why SMTxFE was pretty much dead out the gates in Japan and is going to struggle to even pass what XBX did in its first week in the same region? And this doesnt even take into account that its SMT, FE and Persona combined. At this point, it doesn't look like the game is going to do much better anywhere else.

You are trying to say that people is buying XCX because it has the Nintendo name on it, wich is completely stupid, specially when a bunch of Nintendo games, even from well established franchises, have bombed in the system, XCX is not like any normal Nintendo game and it does not have any Nintendo Character, so is completely irrelevant if they did it, if a game like this is selling fine is a clear signal that there is a market for this kind of games on the console independently of Nintendo and that #FE comparison is lame, is like comparing Final Fantasy with Persona, both are JRPGS yet they are completely different and one sells 10 times more than the other.

I believe there is an audience there but Nintendo hasn't done much to foster the grown of that audience. Xenoblade is great and anyone that's into jrpgs/adventure games has at least 1 reason to buy a Wii u but that's really it until smt X fe and Zelda release. The Wii u could use stuff like the last story and metroid and Pandora's tower ect to really help grow the fanbase for more "hardcore" titles on their home consoles

Most games on thhe system are inflated due to lack of other options. Sadly for Xeno blade I do not think there were many who downloaded it. Way to difficult.

Is it so hard to admit great games can have good sales?
