Forums - Gaming - Amazon 20% off all Pre-orders and New Release Video Games (Prime Members)

It's a good time to be an Amazon Prime subscriber if you're interested in video games: The service now offers Prime members a 20 percent discount on all pre-orders and new releases, Amazon announced today.

Amazon defines the "new release" window as the first two weeks after a game's launch. The deal is valid for physical copies, including special editions, but doesn't apply to packages such as console bundles. Customers won't see the discount — which takes 20 percent off the list price, not off any existing sale price — until checkout. Amazon is applying the deal to all existing Prime member pre-orders. (For more details, seeAmazon's FAQ.)

The deal appears to be a permanent new addition to the Prime subscription, not a limited-time offer. It seems like an answer to Best Buy's long-running Gamers Club Unlocked program, which offers perks to subscribers including 20 percent off purchases of new video games.

Looks like Amazon is following best buys program. I have been burned one to many times by Best Buy pre-orders, and have already made the switch! I also like that the first 2 weeks are 20% off as well.

It appears that Nintendo first part titles will be excluded.

Update: It looks like Nintendo games will be added.

That's pretty awesome, though I prefer the ~30% off E3 Sale at Best Buy because better sales! :p

Though I have to preorder in June, so this could be an alternative..

Well this will make purchasing the full Fire Emblem Fates experience of $99.99 only $82.00! Yay :(

that's cool but i've been burned by amazon pre-orders too many times. fable 2 arrived about 2 weeks after release day for me. dark souls was even worse,.. i canceled my pre-order after almost a month of waiting and it still hadn't shipped -- still kind of disappointed i had to downgrade from the collectors edition to the standard edition on that transaction. infamous 2 was about week late too.

i don't get how an order place months in advance can ship days/weeks late.

either way,.. i'm 100% digital at this point. honestly amazon's delivery failures is a part of that.

Nintendo's titles are included. So are amiibo even. But you caught that already.

Great move by Amazon. They've ensured I always pre-order through them when I do pre-order or buy there when I'm buying new. It's another trademark move by Amazon which helps corner the market for them even more.

Edit: also, kitler, it seems like you got burned early into Amazon's game market. I've never had anything come late, and I often get things coming to me early now (given, those aren't launch-day games I'm getting early). I've gotten different launch-day packages on the same day even; they've been almost perfect from what I've heard since they started working with USPS. If you're full digital that doesn't matter, I know, but should you ever go physical again I strongly recommend you give them another chance.

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

Hmm, very nice.

Maybe I'll try to preorder a game.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

This is a nice thing. It means that I can get Nintendo games at a discount. that almost never happens!

its Amazon.com or US  only tough

Did you contact them?  I've been a Prime member since forever, partially because it includes a service where they'll ship games out early so you can get them on the day of release.  I live in a rural area, though, so I wasn't surprised when a got two games in a row the day after release.  Still, I contacted them to complain.  I told the person I spoke with that the early shipping service was one of the reasons I bought Prime in the first place.  He told me he'd relay the information to the Prime team to see if they could compensate for the problem.  Even better, complaining got me a $50 gift card.  Yeah, they bought me off but, what the hell, I basically got a free game out of it.

It's nice that this is an extra feature, but I still think the best buy alternative is much better if you're only looking for the game benefits.
