Shouldn't Diablo III be listed as Activision-Blizzard? No biggy really, just seems odd to leave blizzard unmentioned for their own game.

Why do we need to keep complaining about other people taste? It's sad that your game of preference sell bad and don't get continued? Yes it is, but from a market sense more people think CoD is better than what you like and companies need to satisfy that need, too bad you think the market should pamper to your needs. That said I don't like a lot of the 1M sellers on the list and like less popular games, well guess what, there are a lot of games to choose. I don't need the game I like to be bestseller or have blockbuster investment, as long as it launches and generate profit to keep the genre active I'm happy.

Five Uncharted games counting Golden Abyss over the last 9 years. All of the games have featured very similar gameplay, but has also been largely story-driven.
ELEVEN Call of Duty games over the past 9 years. All games have featured very similar gameplay, as well as having stories that are typically the butt of a joke.
So we have a little under two years per game for Uncharted with a great story, vs less than a year per game for CoD with what may as well be no story. |
Eh, the frequency of a game release doesn't change the fact that the game is very similar, as in Uncharted's case. Don't take that as a negative thing though. In terms of CoD, it's quality changes year to year, though that's largely due to 3 different developers being involved in creating the games now. Since your main argument against CoD is that its the same game with little variation each year, that leads me to believe that you haven't played any CoD title recently...

bloodborne 2m sold by septemeber holiday boost too and yet it is at 1.97 at vgchartz |
sony numbers include digital sales
bloodborn is one of the games with a very high digital attachrate, because of the hardcore audience demographic.
bloodborn is the ps4 game with the highes overall digital attachrate in japan as example. and japan has one of the lowerst dd attachrate among all 3 big regions)
so no bloodborn is not way undertracked. not even undertracked. either kind of spot on, or slightly overtracked

Can you help us with the data that you used to conclude it?

Very impressed by the numbers, will never understand how CoD can sell these numbers though, especially on console... crazy!
Considering it came out in November that's pretty impressive. Call of Duty is dead guys :^)

You assume that the same people buy the game every year. Which isn't necessarily the case, I personally tend to buy every other year. (Although I did get both BLOPS3 and AW, I didn't buy Ghosts, BLOPS 2). It's the same deal with iPhones, there's just a big enough audience that you can still get massive sales when people don't always buy every year.
Why is story relevant? The metrics show that most people who buy CoD games never even launch the campaign, much less finish it, or care particularly about the intricacies of its plotpoints. People buy the game for multiplayer experience.
Finally, to the outside observer, the games may look similar, but the multiplayer components actually varies a lot from game to game, they have a different feel. There's a reason why many in the CoD community consider AW and Ghosts to be bad games, whereas they consider BLOPS3 to be the best CoD in many years, and it's not because they're the "same game". It's weapon balancing, map design, customisation, and the "meta game".
