Forums - Gaming - Let's say VR bombs this generation: do you think anyone will attempt to work with it again ?

In the specific scenario that I picture in this thread do you think anyone would try to work with VR again ?

Yes, sooner or later VR will become a hit. 25 64.10%

No, everyone will be scar... 12 30.77%

The pricepoint of Oculus Rift has concerned many people after today's announcement, many now believe that VR won't become popular due to the price for a VR device + a PC capable of running said technology properly. Now we have to see the price of Sony's VR device, but beeing realistic we can't expect anything less expensive than 299$ (imho 449$ at this point but who knows) but still adding to that the 300$ for a PS4 we still have a 600$ price, that isn't appealing for the majority of people.

Taking all of this assumptions into consideration we can see that there's a possibility for VR to bomb at it's current state. So I was wondering,in an hypotetical future, knowing that Nintendo previously failed with the Virtual Boy and that Oculus and Sony failed during this generation, do you think ANYONE would try to work on VR to make it appealing to the crowds ?

Yes. When it becomes cheaper and accesible to the masses.

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

When VR becomes cheap enough to be price just as an add-on, instead of a whole new console, then it will become popular and accessible enough. 200€ should be a good enough price.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

i think psvr will do well , it has a good support from first and third parties , and a large install base
but not many peaple will buy a ps4 and psvr at the same time , the existing ps4 owners will buy the psvr

Yes. But seeing as one word posts are considered spam, I'll have to write more than one word. Which I now did.

The more time passes, the more accessible VR gets, because the tech will get cheaper.

Even if fails, it will be tried again when the time is better gor it.Currentlu, the tech is top expensive and somewhat limited. But it will ceartanly rise again.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

VR is the future, but maybe the future isn't now.

VR must become even more practical and affordable for it to appeal to the masses and have better possibilities at success.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

So something that does what it says well, or the opposite where it is cheap.  First stage of brand new tech's life.  Cannot have it both ways.

If companies expectations are low in short term and the sales are like they expected can we call it a success?

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m
