Forums - Sony Discussion - PS4 jail broken - Fail0overflow show Linux running

Source: https://fail0verflow.com/blog/2015/console-hacking-2015-liner-notes.html

So fail0verflow if you remember are the group who paved the way for Geohot to jailbreak the PS3.  Now the same team has done it again with the PS4 and have a low level system hack (low level means they got into the very core of the system).

Although they haven't written a step by step guide or included proper instructions on how to do it, the clue is that the system OS which is based on the free software FreeBSD which has many exploits documented online.

So anyway, they got in and showed Linux in an early form working on PS4.

Homebrew starts here!

Sony want to make money by selling art, Nintendo want to make money by selling fun, Microsoft want to make money.

Still lots of way left to go. It seems they can't utilize main ram of PS4, so they're stuck with 256MB of DDR3 ram for now. And no HDD...

Ugh, what is the need for this tbh? If you want to emulate games you can do it on a PC much more easily, so I don't see much potential use for this outside of pirating, which I don't support at all. Granted, there might be some who will for whatever reason use a PS4 as a dual boot PS4/Linux PC, but I doubt there are many who will do that to be honest, and imo it's not worth it when you're also opening the system to pirating.

PS4 console sales will go nuclear if people find out that you can download free games for it.

I wouldn't mind actually, there are so many games I want to try. That I will probably buy a second PS4 just to be able to try every single game and then buy the ones for my other non hacked system.

Am I a bad person or just practical?
