Nintendo's fiscal years start on April 1st and end on March 31st, and are labeled as the year in which they end, meaning that they are in fiscal year 2016 right now and 2017 starts in a little less than three months from now.

That's all that matters, how other companies handle it is irrelevant.

For Nintendo, Fiscal Year 2016 started in April 2015 and ends in March 2016.

As you can see in the Annual Reports, the FY 2015 ended in March 2015:
