Forums - Gaming - Shenmue 3: No kickstarter rewards for PayPal backers

Well I will say I understand people wanting a perk or two for donating through the Kickstarter program because they were there to help this campaign be a huge success and threw money at a game years in advance not knowing they could later through Paypal.

After saying that though, I voted "either is fine" and I was donating to the Kickerstarter as soon as it opened up (a signed Kickstarter collector's edition!). As long as we get Shenmue 3 all is fine :D

Paypal still get rewards, just not the kickstater ones.

ex: Kickstarter: A physical copy of Shenmue 3 in an exlusive, backer-only case.

Paypal: A physical copy of Shenmue 3 for PS4 in an exlusive case.

The fact that Sony, Sega or someone else didn't just publish this game and then distribute the game physically world wide is mind blowing to me. There's no way I'm going to pay 60 dollars for a game that may or may not work out and even if it does, there's no way I'm going to pay that for a digital only game.

Should have been published.

the game will have both digital, and physical versions. I don't know what you're trying to get at by saying it's digital only.

Rookie move by the Shenmue team... Never put things to a vote.

Looks like they just wanted an excuse not to extend rewards though, given they caved to the group with the least votes.

While this is mostly unrelated to the current topic, I'll be rather surprised if this game doesn't prove to be a letdown. I just hope it's enough to please the fans who've had their nostalgia goggles equipped and ready to go for over a decade now.

I think the game will be good, even if they copy shenmue 1&2 1 to 1 and add a fishing minigame. Game is a very unique openworld game, it had competition

My concern for the game is that many of the things that made Shenmue special would now go almost unnoticed as they've become commonplace features. Also, while they raised a decent amount of money it's not nearly enough to make a game whose scope alone would impress.

It seems to me this game will depend greatly on maintaining an interesting narrative and perhaps providing a unique gameplay experience. I've no doubt it will be something hardcore fans will embrace, but I suspect the lack of a proper publisher is holding this game back from becoming a hit with those not already familiar with it.

I was under the impression that the game will only be pressed onto a PS4 disc for backers only. Are you saying that Sony is going to mass distribute the game and I can just walk into a store and buy it when it launches?

That's not quite so bad then, but still pretty petty of the people who voted no. I can understand people wanting to have something unique, but at the same time, these people need to realize that the kickstarter happened on very short notice and that many of the rewards were quite expensive, not everybody could scrounge together enough money for the tier they wanted while the Kickstarter was going on. It's really pretty lousy of them to vote to deny rewards to other people.

The kickstarter ran for ages, $60 isn't that much money for a unique physical copy.

IMHO if people can't afford that small amount then they need to  learn to better manage their money and better their lives. There is plenty of opportunities out there to improve your live if you put your mind to it.

Hell there are times I have missed exclusive limited rewards on kickstarter because the projet opeed up at 4AM my time and I was asleep. Do i then go to the creator of th eproject and tell them to allocate these "limited" rewards in blocks one for each hour of the day lol? Sometimes you loose sometimes you win that is jsut life.
