Shadow1980 said: Sonic worked best as a 2D platformer. Sonic 1, 2, 3, & Knuckles are some of the finest platforming experiences ever. While the first Sonic Adventure was okay, within a few short years it became obvious that Sonic simply doesn't mesh well with 3D gameplay. Generations was the closest we ever got to to old-school Sonic, and it was better off for it. Sure, 2D platformers not having "New Super Mario" in the title don't exactly become blockbusters anymore, but Sonic can win back the crowd and do decent sales by simply going back to a more old-school style of gameplay. Sega needs to stop reinventing the wheel with Sonic and stick to what worked best. |
Most Sonic games being sub par have nothing to do not meshing with 3D, but low quality control (06, Genesis), lack of focus ( Blk Knight, Werehog), rushed development cycles (Generations, SA2, Lost World) or terrible ideas (Shadow the Hedgehog, fishing). Hell some of those games fall into multiple categories. If SEGA actual gave a fuck during those times Sonic would be in a much better spot. We have a re energized SEGA and a Sonic game in development for 3 to 4 years. Next game is the best judgement.
EDIT: Under low quality that was suppose to say GENESIS NOT GENERATIONS
