Forums - Gaming - Sonic Ruuuuumors: New Sonic is ambitious shelved idea brought back for PS4/XBO, Colors possibly to PC, SoJ did not intend Sonic 4 to be Sonic 4; SoA pushed it.

Hopefully they develop a winning formula and STICK to it this time. One major problem with Sonic is that most of the 3D Sonics have different gameplay styles. At this point Sega doesn't have much left, so they really need a winner.

As for platforms, there is no way this doesn't launch on a Nintendo platform. It WILL launch on one of NX/WiiU/3DS. If the gimped Wii version of Unleashed sold more than the PS3 and 360 versions combined, then they won't pass on Nintendo; power be damned.

Sega's brand damage is SOJ's fault because it all began with the likes of 32X, CD and a gimped Saturn console. SOA wasn't in favor of any of those things and Tom Kalinske personally told Naka so. You know what Naka basically said? Fuck you.

SOJ should stop pointing fingers and start making great games. They should also hire another talent group of westerners and let SOA build the brand back to what it was in the 90's.

20 years agoooooo!

That has absolutely, like your 2 last post, no relevance to now. No fingers have been pointed

So you don't think blaming SOA is SOJ trying to get off the hook or point fingers for it's failure? lol

Sonic was NOT invented to compliment Nintendo. Sonic was directly chosen to be the anti-Nintendo mascot. He's fast, he's got an attitude, he's cool. Mario is not those things. Nintendo is not those things. Nintendo's image is Amiibo (toys), Wooly World (young kids) and wholesome. If Sega wants to be taken seriously again, they need to get out of bed with Nintendo and go back to what made them awesome imo.

What the fuck are you taking about? No one is pointing any fingers. SoJ did not think anything of Sonic 4, SoA took it and blew it up. That is all the article is saying. Everybody knows Sonic 4 was garbage. Everybody blames Sonic Team for it. Nobody is being let off of any hook.

It would be great to see sonic back on ps4!

Because they didnt pass on Generations for Wii right? Wii U is not Wii

Which is why I also said NX. That may be a possibility as well if the game doesn't launch in 2016.

Oh no, Im not talking about the 2016 game. You said Wii version of Unleashed outsold both PS3 and 360 then they wont pass on Nintendo, power be damned, but they already did once already with Generations. So that shoots that theory in ass.

Sonic worked best as a 2D platformer. Sonic 1, 2, 3, & Knuckles are some of the finest platforming experiences ever. While the first Sonic Adventure was okay, within a few short years it became obvious that Sonic simply doesn't mesh well with 3D gameplay. Generations was the closest we ever got to to old-school Sonic, and it was better off for it. Sure, 2D platformers not having "New Super Mario" in the title don't exactly become blockbusters anymore, but Sonic can win back the crowd and do decent sales by simply going back to a more old-school style of gameplay. Sega needs to stop reinventing the wheel with Sonic and stick to what worked best.

Most Sonic games being sub par have nothing to do not meshing with 3D, but low quality control (06, Genesis), lack of focus ( Blk Knight, Werehog), rushed development cycles (Generations, SA2, Lost World) or terrible ideas (Shadow the Hedgehog, fishing). Hell some of those games fall into multiple categories. If SEGA actual gave a fuck during those times Sonic would be in a much better spot. We have a re energized SEGA and a Sonic game in development for 3 to 4 years. Next game is the best judgement.

EDIT: Under low quality that was suppose to say GENESIS NOT GENERATIONS

Sega brought Sonic down, not Nintendo. I can somewhat understand the Genesis does what Nintendon't  "Sonic represents everything that Nintendo is not" argrement, but do you really see Sony or Microsoft pushing a new Sonic game? Especially given the perceived value of the franchise now? Would your average "hardcore" gamer even buy a Sonic game these days?? If the game has been in development for a while and is "ambitious", then I seriously doubt they would be satisfied with ~2M across the PS4/XB1. They'll do better numbers if it launches on NX (and  3DS/Wii U). If you want Sega to divorce Nintendo then what do you think they should do with Sonic, because simply appearing on the XB1 and PS4 won't pull the franchise out of the toilet.
