Well my dad didn't do that kind of things. But when I got a punishement I would feel the pain for several days. You could see the scars on my foot. But he's my father after all. And that's how his dad raised him too. However for my own kids I would use a less painfull punishement.

I am sorry your father didn't know any better. I hope you read on how to bring up your children without resorting to physical or emotional violence.
