Forums - Movies & TV - Avatar 2 = $3 Billion. Here is Why.

This is just dumb, sorry. Did Titanic have quotable dialogue??? Some films like Point Break and Pulp Fiction have some of the MOST quotable lines and they weren't huge box office draws at all.

Case in point: Star Wars is just awesome to the FANS! Just because THEY like to quote it doesn't mean anything. Quotable lines do NOT make a huge movie. If AVatar's trailer impresses with stunning visuals and an interesting plotline, it WILL draw in crowds.

Hell, I'm an Avatar fan and I've been waiting for a sequel the moment the first film ended. Here we are 6 years later and I'm still waiting.

Yes, I still hear references and quotes.

"I'm the king of the world!"
"Draw me like one of your French girls"
"Never let go"

People remember Rose and Jack, it was the big romance classic for women of that era like Gone with the Wind was for its generation.

Pulp Fiction cost 8 million and made in excess of 200 million, not to mention video sales. It was a huge commercial and critical success and made Tarantino a household name. Impressive for a hard "R" rated film.

Star Wars gets quoted more than any film series I can think of.  "I am your father" or "may the force be with you" gets thrown around in all sorts of places.  The fanbase is so broad at this point it is harder for me to find someone who hasn't seen Star Wars at this point. Quoting or referencing a film means it stuck with us, those moments resonate with us as a culture.  These films tend to shape the industry.

You enjoyed the movie, that's fine and hope you enjoy the sequel.  My view is based on fact I have not met a single big Avatar fan in my life. Never heard of a convention in regards to it or seen merchandise in any store.  Maybe the fans are quiet and only care about the film itself.  We shall see.  Also, I never said it would bomb.  I could see it making a billion which is still huge.  I just don't see it coming close to the original's staggering total.

lol Avatar was huge only because of the 3D. It was at most an average movie, this is why people only brings up Avatar to talk about its box office. I guess you never know, but imo unless they make a fucking masterpiece or have an insane marketing it won't pass 1.5B, let alone 3

Not going to happen... Avatar is a fad.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

You guys are underestimating Avatar.

2.8 billion, actually. And I disagree with you. Sure, it has a LOT to do with it but if that was the case Avatar wouldn't have sold miraculously on home video.

Well I was one of the people who missed it in 3d and bought it on blurry to see what all the fuss was about. And failed to see what all the fuss was about besides for the pretty visuals at 1080p, my first tru HD film. Visuals were amazing. Movie was very forgettable.

Same here. Very likely that a lot of people had the same experience and won't comeback for the sequel

i don't even think Avatar 2 is gonna be the highest crossing film of 2017 let alone hit 3 billion.

Your list of the long wait. None of those waits were between a fist and second movie in a franchise. You mention China being bigger but was it that big for avatar to begin with?
You mention inflation bit it's not been that long.
It's the second best selling blu ray. Not even number 1 to a movie that had less than half the box office total of avatar.

Avatar was awesome and James Cameron knows how to make amazing sequels. Whether the Avatar sequels have a bigger box off than the original is kind of beside the point since these movies are going to print huge trucks full of money.

Pogs will make a comeback confirmed?

I personally don't think so. Cameron's had a wonderful streak with Titanic and then Avatar, but there won't be a gimmick like 3D to really propel Avatar 2.

To be honest aside from "Sully" ... I can't even remember a single character's name from Avatar. I doubt most people can, and the only reason I remember Sully is because is sounds like Scully (aka: Gillian Anderson from the X-Files).

I think Avatar honestly is Cameron's weakest film too. Terminator, T2, The Abyss, True Lies, and yes, Titantic are all better movies.
