Xenogears is my all-time favorite. The second disc was... rushed. But the first disc was so amazing it didn't matter.

Chrono Trigger and Lunar: Silvar Star Story are a close second.

Honorable mentions to Star Ocean 2 and Final Fantasy IV.

ff6, tales of symphonia, paper mario ttyd

and of course: FF 12..... i really liked the system. you could configure everything. And a huge sidequest with the special marks and a lot of optional espers. I also liked the style of the world.

also liked FF9 very much with the medieval theme and a great story.
