40-60% cut from its current price? O_o

CNET misinterpreted - it's clearly for SW

If you actually check Major Nelson's site - they confirmed X1 for $300. No less than that.

I thought so I actually went to the link that showed the offer, and only saw "gold member" and software.

but the article had the consoles as well mentioned.

Whooa, this sounds significant.  This could definitely put the XOne on top for December NPD.

I almost wonder if this is a sign of Microsoft preparing to sell their gaming division by trying to boost XOne's install base as much as possible. I don't understand why you would want to take these kinds of losses when your console isn't doing that badly. I was expecting another $50.00 price-cut but this is insane. I am also not sure how practical it will be for Microsoft to raise the price again after this sale ends.

you would have more chance of Sony selling than MS at this point.MS are investing heavies in devices and hardware as well as cross device integration, they aren't throwing away billions for some short term rewards

Software sale. Nice. Bring it on.

They always have a great game sale in December - early January. I've picked up a number of fairly new games during that time for as little as $5.00. And it's all digital so nothing to schlep around, break and lose.

I remember getting great deals on Bastion, maybe Limbo, and a few others. It's nice to pick them up them have them ready when you feel like playing. Not as big deal as it was before Games with Gold, but still nice.

I'm hoping to pick up Minecraft this time around.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

Yeah OP needs to update the text in the original post:

Microsoft chops Xbox game prices for the holidays

As it says in the actual link now.
