Have you actually played Lair? Some of the later levels have the most impressive graphics of any game this generation, bar none. Unfotunately, the quality throughout the game is somewhat uneven. Because of that, it loses out from an artistic standpoint. From a technical standpoint though, Lair is actually the most advanced game, graphically, that has been released for a home console with Uncharted being the only game that approaches it. This is referring to running the game in 720p, however. It becomes a chop fest at 1080p.
Of course, graphics can't save a game from numerous design and control flaws.
1. Uncharted (the best looking console game out there)
2. Gears of War (a year and a half later and it's still one of the best out there)
3. Ratchet and Clank Future (yay colors!)
4. Lost Odyssey (outside of the CG, it's only occasionally impressive and bland the rest of the time)
5. Resistance (the size of the environments is impressive and some of the design is cool later on but it's not the most impressive game out there by any means)
6. Mass Effect (massive performance issues shat all over the graphics in this game - it's hard to be impressed by textures that are just loading into existence as you leave an area - even in the cutscenes!)
