- Nintendo's Scott Moffitt the executive vice president of sales and marketing talked to the Washington Post about the sales of the 3DS and the lack of signs of these sales slowing down:

"So far in 2015, sales of the family of Nintendo 3DS hardware in America are actually ahead of last year’s pace,"

- Hayley Tsukayama conducted an interview with Moffitt and she summarized some of his words:

- Nintendo 3DS is here to stay. Let me throw out a number that might surprise you. So far, on a global basis, Nintendo 3DS has sold more hardware than PS4 and Xbox One—combined. Most people find this shocking.

- on the impact of smart devices in handheld gaming, he says:

- Obviously we don’t deny the impact of smart devices on the gaming market. But it’s a mistake to consider this a zero-sum game. Clearly gaming on smart devices and gaming on Nintendo 3DS can happily coexist, to the benefit of all gamers. The fact is, playing games on two very different hardware platforms means options for two very different kinds of game play. The inclusion of multiple control buttons on Nintendo 3DS allows a much deeper and more sophisticated type of play.

Yea, that is lifetime while the handheld has been out longer. Be ready to see the huge dropoff as Sony and M$ continue to take off. Love that PR spin.

In other news, handhelds out sell home consoles lol. I love Nintendo but this is some serious fucking goal post shifting. Sounds like something you'd read on these forums, not in an official Nintendo interview.

I guess his PR team notified him about that line going out of date very soon!

PS4 will pass the 3DS out in WW sales in 2017 but the real deal breaker for me is software. despite being on the market way longer the ps4 total software looks set to pass out the 3DS early next year. I think the low software shows how small the dedicated handheld market has actually gotten.

Not really that shocking when you see what they've had to go up against. 

The 3DS was released in 2011, the PS4 and XBone were released in 2013-2014. It's not shocking the advantage, it would be shocking if the 3DS kept that by the end of next year.
