Imho VR won't get accepted as well as people expect it to do and take off motion-control style but if it does shure, I see MS and N bringing it to their consoles too, I'm shure Nintendo will be the last to give us something VR related not because of them beeing late but because after a well know flop as the Virtual Boy was they really want it to sell well this time around

Exactly, just like how Sony and Microsoft followed Nintendo into motion controls.

The most impressive thing to me has been the game lineup. Sounds like it's going to be much better than I expected.
I doubt it will be succesfull. They said it's going to be priced comparable to a new console so it'll most likely be pretty expensive. Also, it only works with ps4 (right?) which limits the audience. Furthermore, while Playstation is good at marketing products as 'cool' I suspect many people will still consider wearing the device to be a bit nerdy as well as impractical. Finally, I question whether many big developers will be investing heavily in VR as I'm not sure it will be their best option financially. Of course it will get games, but it needs something big to persuade the masses.
I do think VR is going to be big in the future, I just doubt the PSVR launch will be a turning point. Hope to be proven wrong though, and that it turns out to be amazing

Microsoft is already following behind, and Ninten may jump in as well, when they find a unique and interesting way to enjoy VR. However, in its current form, I am not so interested in it myself. It looks awkward and rather unenjoyable. I don't agree that this will immerse me into this virtual world. The need for a controller in my hand wouldn't pull me in, but take me out of it, as I am playing a game in a fake world with a TV screen, but all around me. Also, being unable to move in this world free, would also break that immersion. I probably wouldn't really enjoy it myself. I can immerse myself into a game without this form of VR. This could become mainstream. Only time will tell, but personally, I wouldn't be interested in it. |
So... you never actually tried it. OK.
Hunting Season is done...
I have no interest in VR and I honestly hope others don't follow. I don't want a library of games being made by my favourite devs that would force and require a head unit to play them. VR in my opinion is nothing more then a gimmick with a focus on a small audience. The only people I know would buy VR are those who play PC horror games. This is also going to up the cost of the consoles if games start relying on VR which would mean they would start bundling it in etc.

Not PSVR specifically, but I did try VR with a smartphone device at a store once. I may have tried Oculus once at TGS, but I don't quite remember. I think it was a video showing a girl dancing? I don't remember ; )

The important is the pricing here. If the price is as good as oculus rift. I see no reason to not get it. Since not only the PSVR has TONS of 3rd party supported, they have exclusives as well, Games like GT Sport, DREAM, RIGS, Summer Lession, DoA Xtreme 3, Detroit: Become Human, Sony Bend's Game, Until Dawn Rush of Blood will be the major selling points for the PS.VR.
But again, they better make it affordable or else it could be the next PS3 disaster launch.
Best of luck, Sony! You gonna need it :).

I'll be surprised if PSVR isn't at least $50 cheaper than the Rift.

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.
