Wow, that haptic feedback is neat. I suppose Nintendo could use a basic form of it for just feeling a button surface.
In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

I still would like to have some physical buttons (at least B/A) but if haptic feedback works, I guess that might be OK. I hope there is an option for a regular controller though.

Yup, those two images are definitely Zelda.

They could..
If this is the case, really hope they don't use touch buttons, because that would be really annoying

[3DS] Winter Playtimes [Wii U]
It's worth mentioning these patetents (this and the other one http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=210893&page=1# ), were presented by Nintendo 1 year and a half ago.
Add even more time since you need a legal evaluation before writing the patent, so, in a few words, we are probably looking at almost 2 years old concepts.
This might be used for a highly compact handheld that is meant to have a large screen but occupy as little space as possible in your pocket. It just feels kind of like a waste to me, though, to have LCD display in the areas where your hands will be covering the buttons. Plus I don't know how streaming or internet would work on this device unless they scaled the viewing area down such that the buttons and circle pads are no longer obstructing the viewing area.
Hopefully Nintendo has a something creative in mind to make this patent more useful. At this point, it doesn't seem like it has very many impressive applications to me.
Clearly the characters in this patent are Sakurai's hints for the next DLC characters for Smash Bros.
Since one of them is a stick figure throwing bombs and the other is a reptile, this can only mean Bomberman and King K Rool are coming to Smash!
