Probably because they like spamming buttons more than strategising.
Its an annoying generalisation because theres good and bad turn based games and good and bad action games. Its dumb to think having one or the other equals a better game.
For example, persona is turn based and is awesome. The Witcher 2 looks great but the action combat is repetitive and stale.
But, well... thoughtful opinions aren't the forte of the internet.

Niche? Most JRPGs are still turned based. |
Most JRPGs are niche, the ones that arent are also not turn based. I prefer turn based but it is what it is, ppl tend ot favor action more so devs shifted to action to appeal to a broader audience.
I don't get it. I bloody love turn-based RPGs, as they give you enough time to plan your estrategy and think about what to do next. I'm not saying that real-time RPGs don't require a fair amount of strategy, but they feel more... urgent. I like to chill out and think what to do next. Like a board game. Okey, that was a shitty explanation, but here you go xDDDD

Did you just made a generalization and then complained about people doing it? how does that work?
Considering almost all Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, SaGa, Breath of Fire, Suikoden, Mother, Pokemon, and countless other individual RPGs - damn near the entire RPG genre - were built upon turn based combat...well, not enjoying turns is pretty close to saying you don't really like RPGs in my eyes.

Its a probability, not a generalisation. I didnt tell you how probable it is because i dont know. But its about the only reason i can think of for the ridiculous anti-turn based reactions.
Generalisation of both "genres" are over the top. That was my point anyways. The generalisation in the context respected to the thread title.
Nothing worse than random encounters. Baldur's Gate is turn-based done right.

Then you might want to look into a PS TV instead. Just make sure the turn-based games are TV compatible.
