Actually, I feel that the Open Sandbox game is slowly replacing the Shooter as the predominant genre. 3D platformers are a bit difficult to make popular again outside of Mario and other Nintendo games, the owners of the other famous mascot platformers (Crash, Spyro, Banjo and Kazooie, Conker, Sonic...) probably are more interested in other genres.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Well I sorely miss RTS titles that played like AoE, Supreme Commander for epic large scale battles and then other RTS games like C&C which seems dead as a dodo while turn based strat games seem to be more saturated than ever. I also miss stealth based games that give you a myriad of choices, luckily the devs behind Trine are working on such a game that also involves time manipulation, another type of game I feel that is largely missing from the majority of games today.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

It's practically a miracle we got Rare Replay on Xbox One.

The Sonic situation is mostly Sega's incompitence, and Crash's situation is Activison's stupidity.

Actually, I thought Rare Replay was a given. It was instant value with very little investment needed.

Activision is probably interested in Crash, now that the PS4 is selling so well. Spyro will be stuck on Skylanders for a very long time, there's too much money there. Sega is in a very weak spot, and with Sonic Boom selling as little as it did, I don't count on Sonic for a long time.

We seriously have a 3D platformer problem here, I really hope Nintendo with the NX tries to do more games for this genre with some more of it's IPs, I think Kirby and DK would be perfect if they find the right concept, but there are also forgotten IPs like Ice Climbers that could benefit from a 3D game.

Fighting and alternative Racing games *cough F-Zero cough* are the only other genres that might need more representation...

Not many people will agree with me on this, but sports sims need a resurgence. Last gen saw the end of so many sports games; MLB 2K, Sony's NBA, NBA Live (but that's back again, blech), NCAA Football, and others. I think 2K should try to revive a couple of franchises, and they should make a true competitor to Madden. I don't want the crappy copy-and-paste games that EA makes, but 2K can do a better job.

I miss arcade racers like Sega Rally. Forza Horizon satisfies some of those needs but I need more games. Also Metroidvania games are a style I can never get enough of.

3D Platformers sure need a revival soon, but for now we can only count on the indies that have been coming up lately like Hat in Time and Yooka-Laylee. I sure hope the next Mario game feels more like the old ones, I miss collecting stars and doing missions :'(

Well there is a great AAA 3D platformer coming in May. Why do you complain?

AAA? Which one?

"Hardware design isn’t about making the most powerful thing you can.
Today most hardware design is left to other companies, but when you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. From the outset one must consider design from both a hardware and software perspective."

Is it Ratchet and Clank?

I don't think so, Ratchet and Clank releases on April the 12th
