Because everything else wasnt ? The Ni No Kuni world is very wierd and thats part of its charm.

I'm still not 100% convinced the protagonist is a "king" Haircut, eyelashes and everything about "him" screams PRINCESS! His appearence is too awkward even for anime standards where 99% of male leads look feminine.

Perhaps thats the story twist, it's really a girl pretending to be a boy... dun dun dunnnnnnn

Personally I didnt like the look of it and it's probably not my type of game, my daughter though, thought it looked cute.

A new opinion suggest that Ni No Kuni is an indie title because it does not have a budget of GTAV.

Honestly it really shouldn't bother me as much as it should, maybe that the character just looks so blatantly female, even with the eyes and added eyelashes, the voice clearly sounding like a little girl, and yet trying to pass the character off as a male...
