Forums - Gaming - Rise of the Tomb Raider just sold me on buying Far Cry 4 ( slight review possible spoilers)

I loved Far Cry 3 & 4 but found TR reboot very average.

As someone have said the level design was badass with the game being linear yet allowing exploration.

In terms of gameplay, the only thing I'm looking forward to in RotTR are the tombs. I don't care about upgrades or the story as the LC gets on my nerves. She is like a Bollywood drama queen thanks to the writers. It's a shame they didn't make all tombs part of the main story, making them optional instead. Will have to pick it up when it hits £20-30 on PS4.

The tombs are optional. They give you just enough space to hunt to kill sparse large game. Thats primarily for crafting but the deer can disappear the majority of the time. The cats, wolves and bears are remarkably morerare as well. The map layout is set up exactly like Far Cry 3 so you know what major animal is in what territory. Again...the Tombs are optional...you dont really need them to get through the game but you can. It makes it feel more like a Tomb Raider game...in that instant at least.

By the way, Far Cry 4 is awesome. The Co-op is badass too. I had a good 30+ hours of fun with it if not more. Arena mode is pretty awesome too and gives you a little extra in terms on content.

Care to tell me what you liked about it? Thank you for the vote of confidence.

Its been a year, so I dont remember everything.

I liked the characters. The open world is gorgeous and huge. The setting is just perfect.

I recall reclaiming Kyrat as very rewarding. When you capture a point(radio tower, outpost, etc) you really feel like you have expanded your operating zone. At 1st you feel like a nobody in foriegn land with a people how are on the verge of collapse then as you progress you are the hero and the world opens up. There are stupid amounts of collectables, but the game does not make you get them all. I think its around 50% if you are going for the plat.

Weapons are fun to use, and are diverse. Gyrocopter is fun as hell and makes getting around a joy (the vistas.... ).

Like I said its been a year and I dont remember the negatives(I dont recall the overall story being amazing, but it was not bad in a negative way, just not a high point) when means basically nothing left a bad taste in my mouth. Its just a fun sandbox for you to take some high powered weapondry and have fun.

Thanks. 50% for the plat? Not bad at all.

Lol those tombs were way ahead of their time I suppose lol

I wouldn't bother with the season pass. The Base game has enough content to keep you entertained, but then again I never bother with season passes. Once I complete the main game I lose interest in side stories etc that you have to pay extra for.

Make sure you do the true ending first and beware the honey badgers. I grossly underestimated their strength :-/

I would probably like Far Cry 4 but than I remember its first person and I hate first person view, its super anoying cause its not one bit like first person view actualy is, theres no "frame"I cant see my noze, my hands, my legs, my freaking glasses etc, playing with a disembodied gun anoys me to no end. Im probably the only person on the planet that play Elder Scrolls and Fallout on 3rd person for that exact reason.

Thanks for the summary, just a little remark: what you wrote seems to be far away from 9.0 (that's 9.0 out of 10, right?), that is the final mark and the review kinda don't fit together - at least that's my first impression.

    CU......or CF ?

I miss the old days of TR
