Forums - Nintendo - Splatoon? IGN Re-review

This is the reality of the gaming market now. The game you get on Day 1 isn't necessarily the game you get 6 months later. There's a correct way of handling it, as I don't think it should be erased from the record what the quality of a game was on Day 1, but nevertheless it's useful for consumers to know that quantity of content problems that are frequently reported in Splatoon reviews are no longer valid.

Was just chatting about this with some folks on AIM. While I get why IGN decided to do this, I think it sets a bad example.

Games SHOULD be judged on their day-one build. If publishers or developers want a positive score, then they should be trained to release a full, working game at launch. And publications and consumers should be trained to expect a full, working game at launch. If a publisher decides to hold back content (to be released later for free or behind a paywall) or decides to release a buggy, poorly-optimized product, then it should be held accountable. The score should suffer as a result. And the publisher and/or developer shouldn't expect a second review once the content that could have, should have been available on day one is finally released days, weeks, or months down the line.

Instead of re-reviewing games sites like IGN should simply WAIT until the full content is released so that they can give a rating on the FULL experience since nowdays almost no game gets released with all the content avaiable...
Still the 8.6 is kinda deserved imho, the 7.9 really looked like a continuing of the 7.8 Meme with Ink instead of whater...

I feel like splatoon is different because they had a bunch of free updates like was promised so the game is different than what it was at launch

Did they re-review Driveclub? Same scenario there. Got a bunch of free updates.

Well maybe they will now that they have had a re review

It's fair... they should also re-review DriveClub. I bet it would score 8.5+ on this stage.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Well, reviewers still need to inform day 1 buyers.  So this is probably the best option, informing early buyers and then updating the review after the bulk of free content is available to inform future buyers more accurately.

Can't wait to pick this up Black Friday. Just have to beat the crowd...

Hey I might be getting it soon from a friend since he's selling his wii u, since we will both be noobs we should play together sometime.

For people thinking about getting this game now and in the near future, this updated review is quite valuable

When I saw the initial review I voiced that I thought it was acceptable but I would like a re-review. A month later, I felt that it really wasn't necessary to re-review the game. This review, I don't know. It feels like the original sore was fine for what it was
