I raise you that the PC is the ultimate Dragon Quest machine. It can play every iteration of every Dragon Quest through IX and including spinoffs. Were you so inclined to try to figure out how to manage it in Japanese, you can even play X. Once the 3DS emulator out there gets a bit further along in development, XI will be perfectly accessible.

Sure, the means may be legally questionable at best for playing basically all of them, but that's beside the point.

On my Android I have DQ1-8. I kinda expect them to port IX and XI as well. I wish it also had the DQ Monsters games on it but almost all DQ main games isn't too bad for a start. They're pretty good mobile ports as well.

3DS can run emulators and VC hacks too. In fact there isn't a single released mainline DQ game the 3DS can't run today, albeit translations of VII and VIII.

OP should mention DQX too.

I'm pleasantly surprised they're finally releasing DQ7. I'll ignore the DQ8 release, but I've been waiting a while to play DQ7.

I'm talking about localized games. Games you can play in english, this thread could have been made waaaaaay earlier if it was about the 3DS in Japan.

The 3DS can't play "every iteration of every Dragon Quest through IX and including spinoffs". Every iteration includes things like DQ VII PS1 and DQ V and VIII PS2, as well as games like the DQ Wii spinoff. It can play more games than possible legitimately with VC hacks, but due to the difficulty and convoluted nature, PC is still better when considering the illegitimate route due to simplicity and general ease of use.

Yes it truly is a dragon quest beast. Why don't get get 1-3 on the system?

DQM3 and you can stream Dragon Quest X to your 3DS. There's also DQM 1&2.
